Fondant on cakes?

Ashlynn, on February 24, 2024 at 2:18 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 5
I'm thinking of putting marshmallow fondant on our wedding cake. I've never tried fondant before, so I don't know what to expect.

Do you guys like it? Can you describe it to me, please? It's it good enough that you would order it on a daily basis of for your wedding?
Thank you for the help! It's much appreciated!

You can get a sample at a local bakery. It’s like super sweet play dough that goes over a very thin layer of buttercream whose only purpose is to act like glue hold it it on. Do they still make those vanilla tootsie rolls? Picture that consistency but 10x sweeter. And it all goes in the trash because people don’t eat it.

Fondant is basically to give you a super-smooth outer layer and do extra decorations. You don’t usually get them for the taste, though I did have one marshmallow fondant that was delicious. I personally prefer just buttercream, but I don’t like the super-fancy cakes anyway.

Personally I am not a fan of eating fondant, I hate to say this but it kinda reminds me of play-do marshmallow fondant tastes slightly better and is sweeter but still not a fan. I just take it off there is usually a thin layer of buttercream underneath it. To me fondant is more for the look of the cake than to taste good. Fondant cakes look gorgeous if the fondant is done well. It can be hard to work with though, if you have never handled fondant. If the design you want can only be achieved with fondant just don't be surprised if your guests remove the fondant before eating the cake. Congrats and happy planning!

Fondant tends to look nice but most people do not like it. I would get a sample before making a decision, and if you're going for fondant for a smooth look, bakers can still get very smooth frosting on a cake without fondant.

Fondant looks nice but doesn't taste good. I would not personally want it on my wedding cake since it would likely go in the trash.
