Flowers under $1200. Is it Possible?!

Gabypd, on April 29, 2015 at 9:23 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 52

I am a graduate student and I live in South Florida. I was not crazy about flowers until I started planning my wedding. The lowest estimate for flowers I got (of 2) was $2,000 I find this crazy for something that will get thrown out the next day. Please help! I like taller arrangements and branches so I don't know if that is a problem but I really don't care what type of flowers. Will need around 11 centerpieces and there are 6 bridesmaids and groomsmen.

I paid around $700 just for my bouquet, my 5 BM bouquet, 3 corsages and 7 boutineers and that is not being picky or elaborate. If you want tall arrangements you'll be hard pressed to find that price for everything.

There are plenty of things that cost a lot of money that don't last forever; food, liquor, music, a dress you wear once. It's the joy they bring. They don't get thrown out the next day; people will take them or you'll donate them and they'll bring joy for days and days.

2000 is probably about spot on; here, centerpieces are about 100-200 a table, bouquets 100-300, bouts usually 10-20. There is product, labor, marketing; all the things that make every thing on this planet more expensive than the raw materials.

If it's not your priority skip them but that's not a crazy number, and that's one reason I suggest smaller bridal parties.....

It's definitely possible! I don't know about the flower prices in your area, but seeing as you're not in NYC or LA, you should probably be able to find something within that price range if you look around. Maybe go to a wedding show? A lot of florists have show discounts/packages.

I'm in the Toronto area and got the following for $1800:

    -Bridal bouquet

    -3 BM bouquets

    -4 mother corsages

    -8 bouts

    -15 centrepieces

    -2 large ceremony arrangements

    -large reception table arrangement

    -large head table arrangement

I think the only way you'll save money and get them below the price you want is if you do them yourself, though doing high centerpieces will be extremely hard and you will be so rushed over it. I grew my own wedding flowers and though I am glad I did and loved every second of it...putting the arrangements together was so stressful and took an entire day. Until you do it yourself you will never realize the amount of labor and skill that goes into flowers and they're worth every cent they charge.

We are using baby's breath for a lot of things - you get the most for your money and you can dress it up by adding in some spray roses. My floral decor consists pf babys breath, hydrangeas, spray roses, and some curly willow in the altar decorations. We are getting all of the bouquets, bouts, corsages, petals, centerpieces, and ceremony decor for $1000 plus tax.

And as a side note - a GOOD florist will work with you on your budget and show you different options to achieve the look you are going for.

Also - ask your florist about bucket pricing - this means that they supply the flowers but you arrange them in the centerpieces. We are already paying a day of coordinator so she is doing that for us!

I ordered my flowers off Fifty Flowers for about $200. My bridesmaids are carrying just 1 single flower and my bouquet is a brooch bouquet I made.

My flowers are costing me close to $1,000 and I am in NYC. That's very low and I'm very excited about it. I only have a Maid of Honor so that's part of the reason and I have a smaller wedding (only 90 guests of so).

I think it is possible if you think outside the box. My florist is just starting out (been in business for only 5 years) and she is so hungry to build her portfolio. I'm so happy to have her! She came highly recommended and her mock-ups were gorgeous!

I think you need to think outside the box. Try to find a florist not yet as established (no brick & mortar location yet) and who is reputable. Find them in that sweet spot and you may be able to get a deal!

    Good luck!

I see you are in Palm Beach Gardens. I'm a Miami bride but I looked in all 3 counties and generally the rule of thumb is Miami will have cheaper vendors, the other counties have cheaper venues. I'll start by saying I think that $2000 for flowers in South Florida is actually a really good deal. You may want to consider looking into Miami vendors (and ask about the delivery fees) or you could try and cut the cost on the venue and add to your flower budget. I got mine for $1800 with a Miami vendor and I have 4 BMs (with embellishment for MOH's bouquet), 4 GMs, 13 centerpieces (7 tall, 6 short), sweet heart table decor, ceremony flowers (pew decorators, two pedestal arrangements at the altar and flower petals lining the aisle) and a toss bouquet. We're getting married in North Miami so its not that far for her and the delivery & set up fee was only $85. We did get a discount for using our wedding planners and that was 10% so basically it was $2000.

I'm paying $800. Instead of going to a florist, go to a grocery store floral section (seems tacky, I know). That is were we are getting ours and they have amazing reviews!

@Gaby...I'm in Metro Detroit. But it took me A LOT of florists to scale down my vision. Best suggestion I could give is to stay in season and don't go with any crazy colors as well as to stay away from "Wedding Florists" and places that seem to market specifically towards that event...ours is an "All event florist" and has a small store front in the middle of a strip mall....think the kind of florist you would stop in to pick up some flowers for your mom.

I also switched my flowers from lots of pinks and purples to just the hydrangea (white) and baby's breath to save some money. All BB bouquets were $25 or so and nothing else had a single item price of more than $80 (tall centerpieces)

Mine are just under $1000 for a bridal bouquet, 3 bridesmaids, 4 corsages, 8 boutonnières, petals for the aisle, and 8 simple low centerpieces. I was flexible with which flowers I wanted and so the florist was able to lower the cost. I would recommend if you really love the high centerpieces, mixing some short and some tall. Tall centerpieces are expensive, so you can save some money by not doing all tall.

You can absolutely do it. We are at just about $1400. We went with a larger florist because they said they can provide us what we need for the wedding at a reasonable price because weddings aren't their main source of income.

    Here's what we got:

    1 Bridal Bouquet

    5 Bridesmaid Bouquets

    6 Boutonnieres

    4 Corsages

    2 Altar Arrangements

    Rose Petals for the aisle

    16 Centerpieces

I live in Atlanta. Everywhere was sooo much more expensive. I was ready to give up when I decided to check one more place and then I lucked out!

I went with globalrose.com for my roses and Sam's Club for my tropical flowers and fillers. Including the cost of ribbon, floral tape, flower snips, Oasis foam, vases and flower preserver, I'm play about $550-$600 dollars.

My mother is a part-time florist and one of FHs aunts used to be a florist and I just have a knack for DIY projects. Between the three of us, I'm pretty confident we can knock out 12-15 centerpieces, four bouquets and two alter pieces.

The only thing I'm nervous about is the flowers arriving on time and making sure they hydrate properly.
