Floral Budgets in Los Angeles

Tarifah, on May 25, 2023 at 5:24 PM Posted in California Planning 0 2

Hi everyone,

I am getting married in April 2024. I am on a hunt for a good florist that can capture a modern, elegant, all white wedding.

How much should I expect to set as my budget?

Having about 30 tables and doing a mix or lots of candles and white florals for centerpieces.

For head tables I would like the waterfall flower look draping from each end.

For staging I am not really sure yet, but most likely waterfall flower look draping over a table.

I have attached a few inspo photos.

Anyways, this is my idea but would like to know how much I should set aside for florals before I start consulting with florists.

When we were getting price estimates from vendor websites, the average starting price was in the $3000 ballpark for super basic flowers: a bride bouquet, 1-2 bridesmaid bouquets and a couple boutonnières. That didn’t include centerpieces or any other decor. The sites said that they don’t talk to you if your budget is lower. If a vendor didn’t list transparently prices on their site, we didn’t waste their time trying to squeeze the information out and we moved on to other vendors. Not listing prices and making you do a full tour/consultation before they give information on pricing is fraudulent and is how they get away with price gouging that people say doesn’t exist.

For us, fresh flowers were non negotiable. We don’t like faux flowers due to the aesthetic, much higher price, and not only do they trigger allergies due to collecting dust but they sit for millions of years in a landfill. Fresh flowers are much cheaper and are biodegradable. There are countless options if you are on a budget. A grocery store florist is great if you just need bouquets, boutonnières and simple centerpieces. If you are crafty, you can DIY via online tutorials and shopping at FiftyFlowers.com or the DTLA Flower Market. But keep in mind that DIY rarely saves money because people don’t factor in that their time and sanity cost minimum wage per hour in addition to supplies. At the DTLA Flower Market (754 Wall St), we browsed the flowers available and were able to find vendors who assemble and deliver them to your venue. That worked out to be much less expensive than a regular wedding florist at half the price and we spent less than we would if we went full DIY.

    Hi, Michelle,

I cannot thank you enough for this information. I have ordered florals through Costco.com and have made my won arrangements and they have worked wonderfully. However, I definitely want to avoid DIYing anything for the wedding to save time and energy.

Would you be willing to share the vendor who assembled and delivered the florals to you? If you don't mind at all?
