Floral Arch - day of timeline

Anyone doing a floral arch where you green the whole trellis and add flowers in (not just an arrangement at each corner, but to the whole arch)? How much time did it take to put it up? All the YouTube videos I see are fast forwarded (good for learning but hard to gauge time) and they also seem to actually do the arrangement on site (go to venue with empty floral foam cages, zip tie, then green and add flowers). I don’t see many where they prearrange the flowers on the block and only zip tie in on site. Is it because it’s hard to get the separate blocks to look cohesive if they aren’t already on the arch? Trying to figure out how much time to budget for day of set up and what can be done beforehand.

I don’t think it would be possible to prearrange flowers on the blocks and then add them to the trellis. First off, it would be incredible difficult to get around all the flowers in order to zip tie. Also, as you mentioned, it likely wouldn’t look cohesive as it would be difficult to account for the space between foam blocks before installation. Do you have experience with floral arrangements? If not, I would leave it up to the professionals.

We did mostly greenery and a small amount of flowers throughout our entire arch as well as some lighting. We had our florist do it, so I’m not sure exactly how long it took, but I don’t think it was much longer than 20 minutes. That was for 2 people working on it (our florist and her assistant).

My plan was to lay the arch pieces down on the floor of the living room to measure for size, just not actually assemble it. I know I want to feed the zip ties through the cage before I start greening but I can see some wrestling needed to zip tie a greened cage regardless. Maybe half can be done beforehand, leaving enough room on the other side to reach the ties and filled out on site.

I’ve done mockups of all my other florals so far; this is just the biggest piece to consider!

20 minutes makes me think the florist was able to use some time saving tricks.

I work with a florist and she typically spends about an hour on the ceremony installation. So give yourself more than enough time. I would also make sure that the flowers you are using will last a long time as you still want them looking fresh and beautiful by the time you have your ceremony.

I agree with the above. I opted to have my arch silk flowers ( saved me a nice chunk of money) but keep the rest of my flowers fresh. Our florist said 1 hour for our arch and then she'll move on to our reception. We also get to keep our arbor flowers and use them in our home on our mantle! Super excited!

After researching some more, I think the most time efficient way to do this is by zip tying garland to the arch and pre-bundling florals to tuck into the garland. Real garland is not cheap, about $200 to cover a 7ft diameter arch, but still a lot cheaper than paying a florist to install. I will order some faux garland and see how I feel about how it looks since this can be much cheaper, but both will achieve the time savings that will be worth it to me. The flowers can be kept in water picks or artificial flowers would also work. I will report back for other DIYers in the future!
