Yes! We took ballroom lessons before covid anyway, and we hadn’t returned since 2020. So it was great getting back in touch with our dance instructor and getting back into it!

Fun!! My husband and I took dance lessons right before COVID started, and it was always super fun as a date night! We didn't do a choreographed dance, but it was still fun to take lessons and try something new. Is your instructor the one putting together the choreography for your dance? Or did you guys put together your own dance using the skills you learned during the lessons?

Yes! Your post reminds me though that we have to practice.

I am a dance failure ..... ROFLMAO ..... I lead and JUST can't stop myself. (bane of being the tallest girl in the middle school + ex-husband never slow danced + a 'take charge' girl) Luckily my precious husband is totally understanding, so we bobbed and swayed to our song. We did manage a simple box step for a bit until I got unruly. The picture below is us cracking up because I started to lead again.

We did not. We are not fans of choreography at weddings , nor are we professional dancers to begin with. For that reason we did not want to focus our attention on trying to remember steps instead of being in the moment.

We got married last October and put together a dance from steps and moves we saw on YouTube! We did this about…a month from our wedding maybe! We put it together in an easy to remember way, and the way we liked, which still gave us space to be in the moment with each other, and still have a fun-to-watch dance for our guests. It was one of my favorite moments of our wedding day!

We’re having our instructor do it. It’s working out great because she’s also a photographer, so she’s good at figuring out places for us to slow down and be in good positions for pics.

That totally makes sense! My husband and I did not do a choreographed first dance either.

Sorry, not a fan either. Wedding guests should not have to be a captive audience IMO. It’s a wedding, not a stage performance. People are there to see you get married, to celebrate, and to socialize. That’s plenty.

Nope. My fiance and I dance in the kitchen all the time. So we do well on the dancefloor together. But I knew that would make me really nervous on the big day.

Very cool!! Choreographed dances would be fun to watch as a guest. That's awesome that you put together your own dance from what you learned by watching YouTube!

My husband and I did not do a choreographed first dance either. I agree that staged performances at weddings can become too much (unless the performance is by a paid professional during cocktail hour or something, or if the couple does dancing as a hobby or career). I've never seen a choreographed dance at a wedding, though I think they could be fun to watch in some cases!

That's a great way to show everyone what you've learned from the dance classes! There's nothing wrong with breaking tradition - how cool that you are doing something unique!

Mine was. For us, it was something like a tradition and something that will remain in our memory and on video. That's why we even took lessons.

Dance lessons are fun! My husband and I took lessons, but did not do a choreographed dance. We considered the lessons to be similar to a date night, and we enjoyed learning different types of dances together. Awesome that the choreographed dance is a tradition for you!
