First Alterations Appointment!

Amber, on December 20, 2019 at 8:07 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

I've scheduled my first alterations appointment for Monday afternoon. The seamstress already told me to bring all undergarments/shoes/accessories that I plan on wearing with my dress. Any other tips?

Also, did you take anyone with you for your first fitting appointment? I plan on taking my mom with me when I go for the final fitting, but should I also take someone with me to this appointment? What did/will you do?

Fingers crossed that alterations won't cost an arm and a leg! Smiley winking

I went with one good friend who helped me zip up. And I brought several friends to the final fitting.

I waited to book my first appt until I had my shoes and undergarments procured. Take a hair tie if you have long hair. Other than that, show up and be ready to smile at yourself! No companions needed!

I had my first dress fitting a couple week ago!

I brought my step mom with me because she's good at giving advice but you don't really need anyone until the last couple appointments because that's when everyone will learn how to bustle your dress!

I second bringing a hair tie! I didn't, and having my hair up would have made it easier.

I didn't bring anyone with me (mostly because all of my bridesmaids and my mom live out of state).

I was alone, too. Family lives 800 miles away. But at least we got to choose our dress ourselves!

I didn't bring anyone with me, but I wish I did. The bride next to me brought her mom, sister, and kid.

I took my maid of honor to the first, mom to the second and sister + mom to the final. I wanted my sister to learn how to bustle it for me. Best advice was from a girlfriend and that is, to easy before your fitting. I figured I was going to eat and drink all day in the dress so no point “trying” to fit into it or starve myself skinny. I was blowing out my stomach like fit it around me! Lol. Might not be the best advice if your dress is super form fit, I had an A-Line. Also if you wear a special bra or corset, try wearing it for an extended period before your wedding. I did a low back bra (I’m busty) so it sat lower than normal bras. It felt great in fittings but about 6-7 hours into my wedding day (photos at 2PM, reception 7PM), I literally couldn’t breathe. My MOH had to help free me and I later found minor bruising. I tried it on 3x before wedding day and was more than fine but fittings are only 1-2 hours tops. Make sure you’re comfortable for your fitting and your big day!
