fh Messed Up Names on Flights?

FutureMrsHadi, on February 11, 2020 at 7:05 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 11

Hi lovelies! Need some advice again.

My FH just booked our flights to Indonesia for our ceremony there and honeymoon. There's two issues on the tickets: My middle name is misspelled. On the flight ticket it says Nichole, but it's supposed to be spelled Nicole. The other issue (this was my fault) is my dad's middle name on his ticket. On his birth certificate his middle name is Gregory, so that's what we put down, but I forgot that in the Navy they shortened his middle name to Greg, which is what is on his passport. We booked our flights through Cheapo Air and when FH called the other night they said they couldn't change the names on the tickets and that we would have to pay and additional $250 cancelaation fee, to cancel and re book with the correct names. Does anyone know if there are any other options? Or if it matters that much?

Nope. I recently purchased tickets through cheap o air and they charge for everything. Sorry this happened but this was human error so I just say pay the money to get the names right. Hopefully it will get resolved but they seem to be strict on their fees.

Your names have to match your passport or you can’t go on the plane. It sucks but the extra fee is probably the only option

Have you tried calling the airline directly?

Cheap-O-Air is a third party and it’s the airline that is charging the fee. Cheap-O-Air calls the airline customer care so they are pretty much the middleman. I would try calling the airline directly and explaining the situation. Most airline tickets are non-refundable and non-changeable but you can at least call and ask yourself! Some times they allow exceptions...but if not, I would just pay the fee Smiley sad

Curious - what airline did you book through?

American Airlines is the worst with changing.

If the OP booked through Cheapo-Air, then the airline will not make the changes. She will have to go through Cheapo.

As another poster said, names on any airline ticket must match the passport exactly. Unfortunately, this will be an expensive lesson.

Not sure why this didn’t post the first time but what you said is not true. I work for one of the biggest online travel agencies so I work with this type of thing daily Smiley smile

When you book flights through Expedia, Booking, Cheap-O-Air and you call them to change the name, the agent calls the airline to see if they can change the name. I was simply stating she can skip the middleman and go directly to the airline. Cheapoair does not and can not change anything. Airlines put their tickets on third party sites for more visibility but it doesn’t allow third parties to make changes to tickets.
She can call the airline to state her case. I’m not saying it will be changed but it can a lot easier than relating it to a customer care agent and that agent telling someone else.

Just like if you book hotels on Priceline or booking, they do not have any say if something gets changed. The hotel does. Their customer care will call the hotel directly for permission to change Smiley smile

You are correct when you say that the OTA (on-line travel agent) like Expedia, Booking, etc. calls the airline after the consumer calls...but the consumer cannot skip the "middleman" they chose to use when there is a problem.

The OTA is the agent the consumer chose to handle the purchase...and therefore that's the agent that must transact the business with the airline...or hotel...or cruiseline...etc. In effect, the agent 'owns' the reservation until day of travel and the passenger is checked in.

You may work for an OTA, but your clients still have to call you and ask you to make the changes. That is the trade-off for using an agent.

But that’s not it at all. She can still call the airline. The airline OWNS that ticket and can make changes... my clients call me because that’s what they think they should do.. when in reality, they can call the airline directly... they call us because they paid us more to be that middleman. But they don’t have to! They can call the airline or hotel because that’s their reservation, not ours.

She can always try, but if you read the numerous posts on consumer advocate site elliot.org there are lots and lots of people who have purchased airfare and hotels through Expedia, Priceline, Cheapo, etc. who are searching for help to make changes and corrections themselves and hit a roadblock because they are required to go through their OTA.

Hotels are sometimes more accommodating. Airlines are notoriously not.

Thanks guys, we did call the airlines and they did say that they are not able to change it, and we would have to make any changes through Cheapo Air. I'm honestly not that worried about it at this point. We'll just pay the extra fees and be good. It does suck though so was just hoping there was another option for us. Thank you all!
