Favors: opinion needed!

Erica, on January 11, 2023 at 10:41 AM Posted in Community Conversations 1 21
My wedding is September 3rd... My fiancé and I are split between what to do for wedding favors. Which would you rather receive as a wedding guest:
A customized koozie (either with bride and groom names, generic quote about love, or a funny quote, etc)
orA customized ornament (with bride and groom names and wedding date)

Ummmm, neither? Sorry sorry, don't want to burst your bubble, really. But ANTHING personalized with the bride and grooms name (except matchbooks) would get left at my table. If you want to do an ornament, do one depicting something special about your event - mine is at a well known beach area so IF I were to do that, it would be maybe a sandcastle, or starfish or something of that nature. We are having a photo booth, so our guest favors are magnetic photo strip holders where guests can display their pictures from the event. Useful favors are what are appreciated and taken. You really don't want 50 ornaments to take home, do you? Smiley laugh Smiley heart

Hm, interesting! I have a personalized koozie, wine glass, coaster, and a few other items that were wedding favors and I love them! It reminds me of the fun I had at the wedding. Appreciate your input!❤️

I think the koozie would be the better option of the two in my opinion. The ornament would be good for immediate family members or for your own Christmas tree, but maybe not for acquaintances/friends of parents/coworkers that attend your wedding. I probably wouldn't hang a Christmas ornament on my tree that had someone else's name and wedding date on it unless it were an immediate family member or a very close friend. However, my husband and I have koozies from multiple weddings we've attended over the years, and they get used often.

Pat brings up a really good point - choose favors that you wouldn't mind having leftovers of, since favors are sometimes left behind by guests. I think it'd be more difficult to find a use for 20 similar ornaments that got left behind, as compared to 20 koozies that got left behind. Edible favors are also popular for this reason. It's also OK to skip wedding favors completely.

For sure! I want to do the koozies, but my fiance wants to do the ornaments, which quite frankly I think is not a good idea😂

    Neither.

I would leave both behind or toss it.

    This is good advice.

And while I certainly wouldn't tell a couple I didn't like their choice of favors, you did ask, so I can say I wouldn't like either of those. I would leave mine behind, and so would my husband (we have no need for either item and don't like clutter).

I agree that the koozies are more likely to be used since people tend to not care what’s on their koozie. The ornament is less useful, and it’ll probably cost significantly more for something people won’t take. Another option, which again works better for the koozie, is to have them personalized with the guests’ names. I would be much more likely to appreciate and take something personalized with my own name than someone else’s.

I would vote neither, but a koozie is way better than an ornament. Edible favors (truffles, cookies, fancy chocolate, etc) are really the only thing that are universal hits with guests.

I wouldn't take either, to be honest. I agree with the others about edible favours.

I'd scrap both of these ideas and go with something edible instead. Ornaments are problematic unless you are 100% certain that all of your guests observe Christmas. Koozies usually get tossed in the garbage, but I'd definitely vote koozie over ornament if I were a guest at your wedding (I am not Christian and thus would have absolutely zero use for an ornament). Better yet, choose an edible favor!

Both great ideas . I would like the ornament if I were a guest at your wedding.

I would take the koozies because my husband collects them, but I would leave a personalized ornament behind. Unless you were my child or something I think it would be weird to have an ornament of someone else's wedding date or something on my Christmas tree.

Honestly, neither. Save your money! Or, put it towards upgrading your cake, food or alcohol... something I would really enjoy!!!

Most people don't care about favors. Good idea to do something you don't mind having extra of. My friend got everyone their own drinking glass and that was your glass the whole night and you got to take it home. It was cute

I would take a favor if it was like chocolate-covered popcorn or something. People do not want to collect more junk and I would probably leave it at the table.

Most don’t care about favors, and I’d personally not take either of the two options home but if I had to, I’d pick the koozie
