Favor containers

My fiancé and I have a story about how we got together that involves oatmeal cookies. (Long story 😆 But I already know my MoH is planning on telling the story in her toast.) We give each other oatmeal cookies as a random romantic gesture, and we celebrate “Oatmeal Cookie Day” as our dating anniversary. So we decided of course we have to give oatmeal cookies as our reception favors. We initially thought of just giving a couple cookies in a pretty bag, but then we got the idea of doing a make your own cookies mix like you see a lot at Christmas. (Basically all the dry ingredients in a jar, you just add the wet ingredients, spoon out, and bake. Instructions would be tied on.) We’re not 100% on this idea yet, but I’m trying to think it through.

One thing I keep getting hung up on is what to put the mix in. A big row of mason jars doesn’t really fit the more classic & elegant style of the wedding. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to package the mix that would be pretty, simple, and portable? Does the mix sound like a terrible idea??

I like the idea a lot, especially considering the back story. The nice look of those mixes is that they are in a clear container and you can see the layers of ingredients. I would still do glass jars, but taller, narrower, more elegant jars. Maybe with a nice ribbon.

I think it's a cute idea even though I personally don't eat oatmeal cookies. Since you don't want regular mason jars, but about something like this. Favor containers 1

Awhile back I helped a friend make these for a baby shower (20 guests max) and they were incredibly expensive to assemble and labor intensive compared to simply baking several batches of cookies and putting them in cellophane bags in an assembly line. Just something to keep in mind.

If you want to do this in the jars, go to Dollar Tree or Walmart and get everything there in bulk. They can special order items to be picked up at the local store if they don’t have it in stock. Glass is expensive and heavy to ship from online stores and no guarantee that it won’t break in transit.

    1. We HAVE to hear the story now!! Don't leave us hanging!

    2. The mix idea sounds cute but I personally would go with the baked cookies. It'll be much easier to prepare and will make less work for you. And for wedding favors in general I think edible things are the way to go! Everyone is tired and hungry at the end of the night and having a built in snack like that is always nice!

LOL! I was trying to keep the post short. 🙂 But okay, here’s the full story.

I went with some friends to a haunted house. We were paired with some guys our age to go through the house (they want certain group sizes) and were chatting with them in the parking lot afterwards. We said that our tradition was to go to the haunt and then go to the restaurant nearby for dessert. I mentioned I always got the oatmeal cookie sundae, and one of the guys said “I love oatmeal cookies.” I told him he should try it sometime, and we went our separate ways. At the restaurant, my friends started asking why I blew him off. I was completely confused. They said he’d been flirting. So after that they started using the phrase “oatmeal cookies” as a code phrase for “yes, that guy’s flirting.”
Fast forward a few years, and I’m talking to my friend Patrick on a road trip, both of us telling funny stories about our lives. At some point I told the oatmeal cookie story. At that point, Patrick realized that I had no idea he’d been flirting and thought he needed to be more explicit. So he gave me an oatmeal cookie and asked me out. ❤️
