Family Distance

Katie, on September 8, 2023 at 4:39 PM Posted in Georgia Planning 0 3
Okay. My fiancé isn’t from where I live. His family lives a good 7 hours away. We have been trying, so so hard to find a venue that is equally far from both sides, but my side of the family is upset that they’d have to travel. I don’t know what to do anymore!!! I keep trying to make both sides happy but it is EXHAUSTING. Do any of y’all have any advice for this?? Thank you so so much

Hey congrats!! YES it is exhausting. For us we realized that we were trying to make our day about everyone else and that was so stressful! So we are at the point where whoever shows up will and who doesn't its fine. We our doing what makes us happy. We are paying for it so we are doing what makes us happy. You guys have the right to be selfish for once in your life. You get to marry the love of your life and that's all that matters. Those that really want to make an effort to be there will!!! xoxo hope that helps Smiley smile

I would choose a venue that is convenient for you and your fiancé. It is the reality in the US today that 50%+ of guests will have to travel OOT for a wedding. You are going to be the ones who might have to make multiple trips to the venue, may need to cart items to and from the venue, etc. The venue should be convenient for you, and it's up to your guests to make their travel plans.

Our families aren't quite so far away, but we had a similar issue. We ended up choosing my family's area because we knew they'd be able to help more. There's a lot of in person meetings or pickups that have to happen, so having someone who can be there when you can't is great. My family will also be helping the days leading up, which is also a huge help.
