Fall Sunday Wedding of a Teacher

Julija, on August 9, 2022 at 8:58 AM Posted in Planning 0 9
So I’m getting married on a Sunday in the beginning of the school year. I’m debating wether to just use 1 personal day to recover from the wedding or 2? Mind you I’m still new to the district. 😅

I think you will definitely need more than 1 day. I would negotiate for 2-3 at least. My job though not a teacher was very generous with my time off as a wedding is a milestone. Hope this works out for you.

Hi Julija. Check with your employee handbook or speak with HR to see how the district can make allowances for new employees. October should be better than August and September which often have black-out weeks. I'm an Administrator that married on a mid-August Saturday. I took 2 days beforehand for errands, and prep. But, looking back a year later, I wish I requested the Monday off to feel married. I returned for required pre-service instead. We took our honeymoon at February break. Good luck.

I'd go for 2 days. The day after you can get things cleaned up from all the activities leading up to the wedding, gifts, etc. as well as recover from the night before, then the next day you can relax and take a deep breath after everything.

Take 2 after all the planning and stressing and thinking. Just enjoy your new wife life for 2 days 💜

That’s what I assumed would be the case.

Thank you for the advice. I’ll take a look and see if there’s anything about it.

That’s what I figured would be the best, but I always feel guilty taking days cause it affects the kiddos.
