Fake vs. real flowers

Sabrina, on September 15, 2019 at 1:34 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 23
I am wondering about doing Sola Wood flowers. My only thing is I don't want the flowers to look fake and I'm kind of in love with the cascading look. Any recommendations? I would love to see pictures too.

One thing that was a nonnegotiable for me was to have fake flowers. I know they can get pricey but I refuse to have fake flowers at my wedding.

In order for you to get flowers that really don't look fake you'll end up spending as much or even more than just getting real flowers. Otherwise, most fake flowers look fake. You could do a mix of real and fake flowers if you're trying to save money. For example, your bouquets could be real while the centerpieces and the rest of the floral decor could be fake.

I am ok with fake flowers and found some inexpensive real touch ones that I love at hobby lobby. If my flowers are going to be fake then I want real touch ones. We don't have the budget to do real flowers and the sola flowers were a bit pricey for us.

I think that most fake flowers typically look fake--not to say that they're not pretty, though!

Personally, I'm going with fresh flowers for the bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, flower girl crown/petals, etc.

For smaller decorations, I plan on doing faux greenery accents. Like for the centerpieces, there will be lanterns, candles, a wood slab, and then some fake eucalyptus. Other decorations will include wine bottles, wine crates, lights, metal pieces, etc., so that the focus is not on florals.

As much as I love the look of actual flowers, I can't afford fresh for my dream wedding decor, but I think this is a nice compromise.

If you don't want the flowers to look fake, I don't think Sola flowers are for you. They photograph well but I think they're noticeably not real flowers in person.

I'm going to be using fake flowers to do my own bouquets for myself (a cascade) and my party (standard round bouquets). I found a great how-to video on how to make a really nice cascade using a fake ivy branch as the base to attach the flowers to. I'm really excited to make it! I'll link the video here so you can see, since you mentioned liking the cascade look.

Sola wood bouquets are really pretty! I would personally choose those over regular faux flowers. If you really want real florals, check out Sam's Club, Trader Joe's, or Kroger! They usually cost way less than a traditional florist!

I'm with you Karen, I can't stand the look. Also a lot of the nicer fake flower alternatives are just as pricey as real flowers.

If you want the look of real flowers then I vote go with real flowers. Sola flowers are pretty but definitely not the same look as real. My personal preference was real flowers as I have never seen fake sunflowers that look as gorgeous as the real deal and I was adamant on a sunflower bouquet. Fake flowers just don't photograph as nicely as real ones.

I will always been team fake flowers. Real flowers smell like funeral homes but it is more personal preference than anything. I used fake flowers for our centerpieces, but my bouquet is a brooch bouquet. My cousin made her bouquet using the Sola wood flowers and got tons of compliments on it. It was beautiful. I don't have a close up on her bouquet but you can see it below as well as a photo of my centerpieces using fake flowers.

I ordered a farm bunch from Sam's club. Its 10 bunches. Should be enough for everything including my bouquet, which will then be used as the flower arrangement on our table. I'm getting hitched 9-21-19. This saturday. Yay.

Go through a local wholesaler and DIY.

The lowest amount I was quoted from a florist was $600.

I will be able to supply real flowers for my WHOLE wedding (all wedding party arrangements, bridal bouquet, centerpieces, ceremony decor, and MORE) for under $200.

That's including tax, shipping, and supplies.

Potomac Floral Wholesale. I'm in the DC area so they do local drop off for me but I believe they can ship anywhere in the U.S.

Also, if DIY is too stressful for you then you can look into Sam's Club or Costco pre-arranged packages but they will be more expensive.

I just recently went through somethingborowedblooms.com and rented my flowers. I didn’t want to try to resale items after my micro wedding. Here’s the bridal bouquet I got yesterday.

I am doing sola wood flowers for my wedding! I ordered all mine through Knot & Daises on Facebook. ( Who I actually found on here via another bride!)

Her work is phenomenal! People cant even believe they're fake flowers, let alone WOOD!

I've included a picture of my bouquet so you can see her work.
