Fake or real flowers

Allie, on February 12, 2020 at 10:28 AM Posted in Style and Décor 1 11
So we booked our venue and included with it comes fresh flower centerpieces of our choice. Originally I was going to do fake flowers for everything, but now I’m questioning it because I don’t want to have fresh real flowers as centerpieces and fake ones for bouquets if it’s going to look stupid. Another thing I looked into is that if I get them done from a local grocery store or Costco like many suggested, they aren’t really all that much more expensive than buying fake flowers and making them myself or ordering from Etsy. Thoughts? I just can’t decide if I should stick to the original plan of fake flower bouquets or pay the little extra for real.

I don't think it'll look stupid because your bouquets don't need to match your centerpiece and a lot of faux flowers now look real

It won't look stupid. My whole wedding was fake flowers and everyone thought they were real anyway. Just as long as you're not buying silk flowers that look fake. There are also techniques and treatments you can apply to silks to make them look more life like too.

When talking to different florists and my friends who did get married, they have suggested do not do both real and fake. I decided to do real and wanted to add greenery around the centerpieces but now they have to be real and more money.
I would stay stick to either real or fake, don't do both.

I'm all about real flowers if you can fit them into your budget! We're doing all real for the bridal party and arch, but our centerpieces will have fake flowers in them to save costs. The centerpiece roses look very real, though.

I think you should see the style of flowers they are offering. If you don't like them, maybe you can upgrade by say, adding your favorite flower to the arrangement, like hydrangea, calla lily or small orchid and pay the difference. Save $ here.

As far as mixing silk and real - florists do that all the time. My friend loves peonies but was getting married in the cold weather when they were not in season. She ordered silken pink ones and her florist added other real flowers, making a beautiful mix. They looked fabulous. So, whether your get real or fake, does not matter.

I do like to see the bride, however, with a real bouquet because it looks best and photographs best with the wedding gown (yes they really do photograph better than synthetic ones -- I don't know why, but I had my photographer do a test and I went with real). My sister, for her wedding, did a mix of both and it photographed really well. Something about a real flower ...

Whatever you decide, there are no hard and fast rules -- do what makes you happy and your bridal party need not match the centerpieces.

I would choose real flowers. Centerpieces would be the largest floral expense, and since that is taken care of by your venue, purchasing real bouquets would not be that expensive. Good quality faux flowers can get pricey. So, I personally, would keep a cohesive look with real flowers throughout the wedding.

Thanks for all the input! It’s putting me a little more at ease knowing I can probably get away with mix and matching. The venue offers our choice of flowers so we have some flexibility with that, but I just love real flowers. I just wish they weren’t so damn expensive!

Check out a company called the Bouqs Co! It’s a company based out of California. They have prearranged bundles and ones you can do yourself. They send them three to four days before you event to give time for the buds to open - and say if a flower is damaged they have time to send you a replacement. For what you get in each package they are very reasonable and budget friendly, in my opinion. They have great reviews as well.

If they are including it in your price for the venue i would take. that saves you time and money to spend elsewhere. i had fake flower bouquets from Etsy and no one had any idea they weren't real. plus they don't have to match!

All of our flowers are fake, and we wouldn't of had it in any other way!
