Essense of Australia Bridal Sizing

M, on January 28, 2019 at 11:59 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

Ok so I found the dress, yay! But I normally wear a street size 0 and they wanted me to order an 8!! Which just seems crazy. So I went with the 6. My biggest measurement is 25.5 waist which is in-between the 6 and 8 on the chart. I am just hoping it fits and trying to minimize the cost of alterations. Just curious if anyone else had this experience with this designer and how it turned out.

My dress was a Martina Liana which is the same family brand as Essence of Australia. Bridal sizing is sooo different than street sizing and it’s really important to order the size that fits the largest part of your body. It’s also a lot easier to take in a dress than let it out. I normally wear a size 4 or 6 but had to order a 14 in my wedding dress because of my chest size, a seamstress took it in with no issues.

I'm normally a 8-10 and the size 12 sample fit perfect. But mine is an A-line.

I am normally 6-8, and my dress is princess so I would get probably a 6 since it’s not tight on my hips. They told me to order a size 10. I do have a Pronovias dress, but all wedding dress sizes are bigger than usual dress sizes.

I would be careful with ordering based on the sample size because those are extremely stretched out.

My dress was a Stella York A-line (same designer) and I am normally a size 0, and my measurements were almost perfectly in line with the size 6, so that was what I ordered. Bridal sizing is funky, no need to get hung up on a number. My dress needed minimal alterations, just the hem, bustle, and having the straps/back of my dress taken in. The waist was a tad big but I opted to leave it alone because I figured it would be comfier throughout the day that way.

I was actually the first person to put it on in the salon. I asked about that.

When I ordered my Essense of Australia dress I was a 6 in the bust, 8 in the waist and between a 10 and 12 on the hips - my consultant advised me to go with the 10 so the dress wouldn't be completely massive on top and when it arrived it fit perfectly in the hips and waist (and will need some minor alterations up top). I'm usually between a 6 and 8 in normal clothing. Hope this helps!

Bridal sizing is really weird. Every company is completely different (I was anywhere from a 4 to a 12). Depending on the shape of your dress, you typically order the size matching your largest measurement as it is much easier to take the dress in than it is to let it out.

I got an essence of Australia dress

I weight 112 lbs and typically wear a size 2-4 . the lady ordered me a size 10

I was a little weary at first, but she reassured me it would be fine and its better to size up to take it in ( in case I get bigger) then to try and take it out...

when I went to pick up the dress, I weighed 112 lbs...and the dress fit me like a glove. sure there will still be some alterations because im short...but bodice wise...its perfect.

now im afraid im too fat for cuz you know...holidays...hitting the gym hard

Omg! I'm having dress sizing anxiety!

I got an EOA dress as well, and I weight 112 lbs and typically wear a size 2-4 .. The manager had said the 8 would be a perfect fit, but it was half an inch too small on my waist, so they ended going with a 10. I was freaking out the day after, and after doing some research, I figured I'd best go with the size 8, because I didn't want there to be a massive amount of alterations, and for the lace pattern on my dress to not be neat...

But now after reading about your experience, I'm freaking out! On the upside, I have a year to lose weight!

Hello, idk if I'm late for. this but I also got an essence of Australia. I bought another dress from David's bridal and I'm a size 0. But with essense of Australia, I'm a size 6. The dress fits me like a glove. I just have to take the bust in, it's a little bit. But I literally can not gain any weight but I'm not worried about that. My waist is a 24 1/2 to 25. Depending it I gain a pound or 2. I think what they ordered you was a good size. This way you can take it in.

Oops haha now I'm worried! I ordered one Essense of Australia dress in June. In the store I had to try it in german size 38 (at least that was what they told me) which would be US size 8. That one was about 2 or 3 sizes too big but they didn't have it in a smaller size. My bust is a 33 and my waist 24.5, so she told me I'm between german size 32 and 34 in that dress which was already a bit irritating because usually I'm wearing 34 to 36, depending on the fit and the brand. So we ordered the 34 which would be a US size 4 according to Google. But when I found the Essense of Australia size chart online, I was so shocked because I'm rather between 4 and 6 (which would also fit better to what I usually wear)! Now I really don't know if she made a mistake reading the size chart or if she correctly ordered a size 6 and just "translated" the US sizes differently into german sizes in order to make me think I'm wearing a smaller size. My dress will arrive in November and my wedding will be in August, so at least we'd have time to order a new one in case it's too small...

How did the dress work out?? When I was measured my bust and hips were spot on with a size 8 but my waist was in between the 8 and 10. Size 8 was for a 26 inch waist and mine was 26 1/2. I'm 5'5", 123 pounds, and usually wear a 2 or 4. They told me to order the 10 and get it taken in (which I did) but I'm super afraid to find out what the cost of alterations will be now...

The dress worked out fine! I would be the bride who would get her menstrual cycle the day of the wedding and be all bloated but even with the size 10 and alterations it still fit like a glove. Just go to a good place that does dress alterations... you usually have like three scheduled ... so they accommodate any weight changes. But nothing to be worried about. As far as cost, that really depends on where you are located , market pricing and how much alterations you are doing. Mine was less then $500 but that’s due to all the lace on my wedding dress that was intricate , shortening it, the bustle, and with purchasing a veil

Oh no!!! I’m sure you couldn’t even tell you were bloated! I’m praying my alterations are under $500. What dress did you wear??

I'm normally a street size 2 or 4 but wedding dress sizing runs crazy small. I bought an Essense dress and ordered a size 10.

I am also normally a size 0 and they ordered me an 8 they wanted to do the next size up but my mom jumped in and said no an 8 is plenty big enough. Especially when my jeans are normally a size 00! Haven’t gotten my dress in yet but I’ve heard they do run differently than most dresses!

I normally wear a 0 and my wedding dress was a size 6 (Stella York). My measurements were essentially the exact same as the size 6. It fit almost perfect and only needed to be taken in on the straps and back (and a hem). Wedding dress sizing is goofy, don’t get hung up on the number.
