Engagement Shoot Timing

Julija, on August 8, 2022 at 2:17 AM Posted in Parties and Events 0 27
So I’m hoping to loose some weight before our engagement shoot but I also want to use our photos for the invitations. I want all RSVPs in by August 1st which means I would need to send it out around mid to late June. With this in mind when should I try to do my engagement shoot?

I kind of was hoping to do it in summer but that I don’t think will happen due to turn around being on the slower end especially with wedding in full swing at that time. Part of me then thinks that end of Spring would be better, but my photographer only does week days for engagement shoots and that means it would have to be over spring break as I’m a teacher.
Do I just deal with the fact that I’m heavier than I wanted to be for the engagement shoot and get it done over the fall break (school starts next week for my district), or do I wait for spring break, or do I push it and wait till summer break?

Right now it seems the turnaround time for wedding photos is several months. So it shouldn't be done in the next summer unless the photographer is really prompt. You'll look great whenever the photoshoot is done. Beyond that, I don't have experience with this yet.

I'm loosing weight too. The struggle is real. I think spring break. Gives you more time to loose. And the weather is nice. Then you should get them by June. Good luck on everything.

I would do spring break to be safe. What's worse, wishing you lost a few more lbs or being weeks late on sending our your RSVPS Smiley surprise keep in mind you do have to wait for your pictures to come back, but then you also have to wait for processing and shipping for your RSVPs to come in before you can mail them!

Honestly, get them done this fall. What's the point of putting effort into engagement photos if you're not going to allow yourself time to enjoy them? I got several of mine printed on wood and use them as home decor, and my family members have some hanging up. If you get them done on spring break, you won't get them back til summer, and then sooner than later you'll have wedding photos and the engagement photos will be pushed to the back burner and forgotten about. Seems like a waste of time and effort.

Ps- RSVPs due August 1st for an October wedding seems a bit early. Most often RSVPs are due about 1 month in advance, not 2. A lot of people don't know their plans, work schedules, etc 2+ months in advance.

I can understand that. We’re really only doing engagement pictures to get something nice for the invitations as well as create our guest book. Other than that both my partner and I are indifferent about them. Granted we also had 2 friends who were art majors who took a photography class and asked us both to be their couple for a mock engagement shoot to have as a reference for their portfolios waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back when we 1st started dating, so we both are kinda over all the hype there. 😔

That’s what I was afraid of, but a few of my vendors that are number sensitive need numbers 6weeks prior to the wedding and his family is always last minute so I built in 2 weeks extra time to call and annoy people to try and get those numbers figured out. So it’s not a hard deadline, but I for sure am not telling anyone that until after the fact. 😉

I think you should get them done this fall and embrace your body at this point in your life. 💗 Maybe splurge on hair and makeup, find an outfit that you feel confident in, and take some beautiful fall photos! Just my opinion. Smiley smile. The leaves changing, the cool air, the extra time to get things done. It’s a win win. I understand how you feel, I battled with weight growing up and I put some things off/ didn’t do some things because of it, and it’s a shame. Having a goal to lose weight and be healthier is great, but don’t let it stop you from enjoying these special moments now. I think it’s kind of cool too because you’ll be able to have the photos soon, at this point in your weight loss journey, and then if you hit your goal by your wedding date, you’ll have some really awesome progress pictures. ☺️ Best wishes for you and your future husband. 💗

I was wondering if the engagement pictures arrive much quicker than wedding pictures these days. One option may be to get a photographer who does not do weddings. But this would not allow you to see the quality of the wedding photographer.

I hear you. I went through a pretty bad depression when COVID hit and gained a crap ton of weight. I was never “skinny” but I was healthy and fit. I just don’t want pictures that I’ll have forever reflect a body that I had surfing the roughest points of my life.

In the package we got with our wedding photographer it’s all include for the things we want. I think I’ll just have to message her and ask when a good timeline would be.

I’m sorry to learn that. If it brings you more peace and comfort to get them done during spring break, then aim for that. Getting engagement photos should be a joyful event. I just hope you can enjoy the process of working towards your goal and not feel too stressed out. Sending love to you!

We did our engagement photos in June and I got them back in a week. it is totally dependent on your photographer. We've already sent out all the save-the-dates and were able to use engagement photos for them.

That's helpful to know. How many pictures do you end up selecting? Does the photographer begin this with a review of certain recommended images?

He gave us a gallery of around 100 edited photos. We didn't see any raw images.
