Elopement and pushed reception/marriage renewal?

Kristina, on June 29, 2020 at 1:23 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8
Hi guys
We are so overwhelmed with what to do. We were supposed to get married this year but ended up pushing it to October 2021 due to COVID. However, we still would like to get married this year and push the ceremony to next year if possible. Would you guys say that’s crazy/tacky thing to do? Also idk how it would work to push the ceremony next year if we did just elope this year, Would it be the same as how it would be getting married with bridesmaids and groomsmen? Or is it just the party? Idk what to do or what to think. Thanks you guys

I think at this point brides are free to do whatever they need to do to make it work. Next year you can do a vow renewal if you would like and still have your bridal party partake in the ceremony part.

We got married in June and pushed our wedding to September. We are redoing the ceremony. People say you can’t get married twice, but I don’t care what people say. I’m getting married twice! My bridesmaids bought dresses and grooms have ordered tuxes. A year from now is not promised, so we are just going to shift and make it work income September. Good luck to you.

It’s not crazy or tacky as long as you’re upfront and honest with your guests and let them know that you’re already married and they’re attending a vow renewal, not a wedding. You can still have the ceremony with a bridal party, it would just be a vow renewal ceremony instead of a wedding ceremony. Some do choose to just have a reception or a celebration of marriage, that is up to you and your FS.

To be honest, I think COVID is doing away with “etiquette.” Yes, you can elope and yes, you can reenact the ceremony you were supposed to have. Many brides have done it, are doing it and I’m one of those brides. I’m still hesitant on whether we will share that we are married prior to the ceremony/celebration due to the fact of people that aren’t Covid brides don’t have the same understanding of a COVID bride experience. Make whatever day or days you want as special for you and your partner. And to hell with what everyone says about “etiquette.” This isn’t a normal experience and therefore, we have to match the times of this new world.

I think brides effected by covid get a free pass to celebrate as best as they can. It will still be special. I think you can elope plan for a reception next year and even do all the pre wedding parties next year. Entirely up to you, happy planning.

We got married on the 19th and have our big celebration rescheduled for next summer (🤞). The current plan is to do a “vow renewal” with a unity glass ceremony (I really wanted this but we didn’t get to do it next year, so it’ll work perfectly!) followed by the reception, just like it would have looked if we hadn’t postponed.

We're having a small ceremony/reception and some kind of big celebration next year, basically what we had originally planned for this year. I don't think we'll have a ceremony per se, but I want the pictures of everyone together, so the bridal party will be wearing their planned attire in 2021.

    Hi Kristina,

I don't think this is tacky at all! I actually love this idea. If you get married now, that gives you more time to save for your dream ceremony and reception next year.

One of my girlfriends recently got married in a very small ceremony and they live streamed in on Facebook. They will be doing a renewal next year with a huge party! I think it's such a fun idea.

Let us know what you end up deciding.

Sending so much love your way!

    Smiley heart
