Drop in mailbox or hand to postal person?

PrincessLawrence, on February 28, 2018 at 3:57 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 43

I know this is a very weird question, but I am concerned about loosing invitations. Did you just drop them in the box and hope for the best? Or did you hand to the post lady/man inside at the counter?

We dropped ours in the mailbox. With everything else going on with the wedding that didn't even cross my mind! It's a good thing or that's one more thing I would have been worried about. The only person who we found out didn't get an invite was FIL's and it turns out we had forgotten to send them one, when we confused the last name with FH's uncle and wife.

I brought them in to the post office. Someone I know dropped hers in a box and that box got broken into!

I personally dropped them off at the desk. I felt better knowing someone actually took them versus me throwing them in the box. It was a really weird vibe I was getting lol

Unless they need to be hand stamped for any reason (odd size, bulky, etc.) then you should be fine dropping them in the box. But I wouldn't just drop them in a box on the corner, take them to the post office and drop them in a box there. If they need special care, then take them to the counter. ETA: be sure to have one reviewed by a Postal employee to make sure you have sufficient postage. Weight isn't the only factor in determining the amount of postage needed.

Nope. I already had them weighed so that is good. I was going to take and drop at the box inside the post office instead of waiting in line

I brought my invitations in and had them weighed before putting stamps on them. Put the stamps on them while I was at the post office and handed them off!

Mail gets lost. one of our invites was sent back to us a month after mailing, for no discernible reason. address was correct and everything. you can't avoid it really so don't stress. people will ask you, especially if you sent save the dates too.

I went to the post office and gave to them in person to make sure the stamp was enough and it was. I did the same for both save the dates and wedding invites.

Ok ladies so I am actually a mail lady and it really does not matter if you drop it in the blue box at the post office or one on a street corner. Each one of those boxes has an assigned mail person that picks up there everyday and we have a to scan the box everytime we pick up. In the cases of a letter not making it has nothing to do with the box. We take the letters to our hub at the end of the day which is transported from truck to truck, air and sometimes train and thru a machine and truck to its destination. A letter can be lost in transit, address not legible, got stuck in the machine or delivered to the wrong address. Sucks but it happens. And I never hear of the boxes getting broken into ,unless its the holidays where we have to be extra cautious, and we do more pickups then. But ultimately do what you feel comfortable with but these things can happen no matter what although we do everything to make sure letters get to their destination. Hope this helps.

I'm planning to take it personally to the post office and offering to hand-canceled the wedding envelopes myself. I worked way too hard on those invitations to have even one get lost.

I handed ours to a clerk at the post office, but that was because I wanted to have one reweighed and verify that no additional postage was required. I had taken an assembled invite to the post office to be weighed when I bought the postage, so I wasn't expecting any issues, but I wanted to verify that everything was good one last time before they went out.

With so much to do in planning the wedding, it was a relief to drop them in the mailbox and check that off my list?

Depends on your local post office and mailman. Here in Columbus we have a LOT of issues with mailing going out and getting delivered so I'm actually going to head home to my parents (where we're getting married) to make sure I walk in the post office and send them out there. Seems like it would lessen the chance for error and damage at the very least; better safe than sorry. :-)
