Dress fabric and Weather

Mrs. Johnson, on February 21, 2024 at 8:20 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

I would love a dress with full sleeves but our date is in the summer time and we'll be in Vegas. I heard that lace and sheer wouldn't be an issue because the fabric is breathable. I want to get a dress similar to this. Would it be okay for a HOT day?

I would test it by doing a lot of exercise (work up a sweat!) and then put it on. Is it comfortable? If so, you'll probably be okay

Nice, I hope it goes well! Maybe go after your regular workout (but hopefully you're not too sweaty lol, just hot) and try them on?

Please no. As someone that works in a bridal shop, we don't want you coming in all sweaty.

Mesh is not going to be any hotter than the rest of the gown.

You're right, do you have any alternatives that would be good tests? Or should Johnson just try them on like it's a regular fitting and not worry about it?

Gowns should be tried on like a regular fitting. If you love sleeves, you'll have to evaluate if you want to wear them in the July heat or opt for no sleeve. Like I said though, mesh sleeves aren't going to really add anymore heat than what the gown has already.

I personally am not a fan of lace or mesh in my underarms in heat. May in Las Vegas will be already above 105F, at 9pm with the sundown, it will still be 95F- 100F. I suggest sleeveless with a jacket, wrap, cape, or detachable sleeves because when you do go inside most buildings, the Air conditioning is quite strong. As Amy suggests, try on communal dresses as your best self, never sweaty.

Vegas is in a bowl so it doesn’t cool down much even in the winter from the summer temperatures which are well in the low 100s being generous. Even at night, it does not cool down, which is why all the businesses are so air conditioned and locals rarely wear long sleeves. Unless you are abnormally cold at all times, a lace dress with long sleeves will be sweated through and then some. Always try the dress on beforehand. And natural fabric such as silk will breathe while others do not.

My dress had similar sleeves and it was about 80 that day (in October in Wisconsin, I'm still bitter, but I digress). I was a little warm, but not too hot or sweaty from it. More like I was just more aware of something on my arms than I feel I would've been if it had been in the lower 70s like we'd hoped
