Dress after wedding

Chandra, on November 13, 2019 at 3:11 PM Posted in Married Life 1 8
Just curious what everybody does with their dress after the wedding day!
Are you saving it for a future daughter? Reselling it? Preserving it? Donating it?

I've seen lots of beautiful ideas of what to do, and I've decided, since we got confirmation that we're having a baby girl in February, that I'm going to have it repurposed into a baptism gown for her!

I wore my grandmother's gown, which was in my aunt's possession since she had also worn it. I returned it to my aunt after it was cleaned in case any of my cousins want to wear it. I asked my mom about making her wedding dress into a christening gown for grandchildren, and she thought it was a good idea, but my dad pitched a fit. So, my mom made a simple gown for my son and for future infant baptisms, and she made a dress for my niece when she was baptised at two.

My mom had my dress dry cleaned for me while we were on our honeymoon. I just couldn't give it away, but now it's just sitting in a box in my basement storage room. Maybe a daughter will want to wear for something someday!

I'm chopping mine off into a shorter cocktail dress and I'm going to dye it. The rest of my lace will be used in craft projects and part of it will be used to line the shadowbox I'm making for the few things I want to keep from the wedding. I'm not a big one to just have "stuff". I get rid of things that are not useful and for me, having my beautiful dress just sitting in a box or hanging in my closet is wasteful and useless. I'd rather use it for other things. I'll have the memories and the pictures. That's enough for me.

That's going to be so sweet!

I'm thinking of making my dress into curtains or a teddy bear for our potential future child

Mine is in the closet aha just hanging in a garment bag. I did consider donating it to a prom dress drive because I bought a white evening gown

    That's a clever idea!
I'm going to resell mine. Hopefully some other bride can benefit from it too.

    Just had it cleaned.

We're actors, so I'm sure I'll find a reason to wear it again, soon! (DH got super upset when I suggested wearing it for a Halloween party. I ended up with food poisoning, so good call on his part.)

Also, would love to wear it again in like 25 years when we do a vow renewal or something!

Since we had a honeymoon baby I used it in his newborn photos.

I've also put it on several times possibly including when we were about to leave for the hospital to be induced and asked my husband if I was over dressed.
