Donuts/doughnuts

Merline, on January 2, 2020 at 10:46 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10

Anyone do donuts as favors? FH and I placed our order to have donuts and doughnut holes. Right now we have all glazed donuts, but thinking about changing to an assorted option. But, we did not want someone who does not eat pork to end up with a bacon glazed or some one who is allergic to strawberries to end up with a strawberry doughnut. We plan on putting them in individual boxes with thank you stickers on them and placing them at each table setting. We plan on picking up the product the day before the wedding at 3pm. When did you all pick up your orders and how did you ensure that they did not do stale? Thanks

We didn't have donuts, but we had cake pops. We had a few different flavors so in case people were allergic or preferred a specific flavor. I think having an assort would be for the best. Our cake pops very individually wrapped. I would separate different flavors from each other. My mother-in-law made them 3 days prior and they were still really fresh. The morning of the wedding we gave the venue the cake pops to put out for us. My brother-in-law had donuts instead of cake for the reception and my sister-in-law who wasn't in the wedding picked them up from the bakery the morning of the wedding and took them to the venue. The venue handled them after that.

We’re doing donuts as our dessert option not favors and hoping/planning to pick up morning of wedding.

We did donuts as a late night snack. There were so many left over that we should have thought to have to go bags available! We did a mix of flavors from a unique local place, but they were more like foodie flavors than classic. The donut shop delivered around 9pm and our coordinator set up the donut table and the band announced that donuts had arrived.

The local shop that we are ordering from is open from 5am to 2pm, so there is no way for them to deliver. I think I will change it to a mix of flavors just so it's not so plain.

Great idea! I will have to ask the venue, if there is a place that we could place the donuts and separate them according to flavors. FH is okay if they all do not walk away, as we go to the shop at least once a week lol. I will have to see if someone would be willing to pick them up the morning of as the shop is open from 5am-2pm.

Ah, yes, our donuts were made after hours and we paid a delivery fee. Have you already connected with the donut shop to see if they have any flexibility or other ideas? We order around 100 donuts and they were a very small shop at the time, there’s no way we could have just walked in day of and walk out with enough donuts. 😂 Plus by ordering we were sure to get the custom flavors we wanted.

She has a very small shop, it's just her and her husband. There was no formal paperwork or anything for us to fill out. She just wrote everything down and told me to call her the Monday before the wedding to remind her lol. We will probably get some donuts from her this weekend, I will ask her about delivery and changing to assorted flavors.

The best man had originally gone to pick them up and the shop didn't give all of them to him so my sister-in-law picked up the rest. I would send someone reliable. Could one of the groomsmen go and get them before they need to start getting ready? Or could another relative go? I'm not sure how far the shop is from your venue.

This is just my opinion, but I think once they are more than a couple hours old, no donut tastes fresh. If you haven't yet tested how these donuts taste when they are more than 24 hours old, I'd do that and make sure you are happy with them. Most donuts, especially those with any kind of frosting, get sticky pretty fast if you put them in an airtight container. Maybe a cake-style donut with a dry topping, like nuts or sugar, will hold up better. The only wedding I've ever attended where they served donuts, they were a special order and were made late in the day and delivered fresh at the start of the reception.

Thank you. That's a great idea. We plan on stopping by her shop this weekend. I will pick up an extra donut and give it the 24 hr test.
