Kendra, on July 18, 2021 at 10:35 AM Posted in Pennsylvania Planning 0 10
So I don't know what to do because I want to get married but I don't have enough money for my wedding dress. Would anyone let me know how I can get help paying for my wedding?

Save up and postpone your plans for a while. Get an additional job. Have your FI get an additional job. Go through your possessions and sell to downsize.

Hi Kendra! There are some really affordable wedding dress options out there!! You can also scour resale sites like Poshmark and Ebay for deals, and StillWhite.com is a resale site just for wedding dresses!

Azazie, Lulus, and JJ's House have a lot of dress options for under $200-$300, and David's Bridal has gorgeous gowns for under $100!

I'd see if you can find a wedding dress you love for $100-$200 and save up for it! Smiley heart

You can find a wedding dress for under $200 by looking at websites like Lulu's, ASOS, Azazie, or JJ's House, or shopping on resale/consignment sites like Poshmark.

If you cannot afford to have the wedding you want, you should consider postponing your wedding date to allow you more time to save, or adjust your wedding expectations (smaller guest list, less elaborate dress, backyard or inexpensive venue, etc). I firmly believe you should never take on debt to have a wedding; doing so would suggest you are not financially responsible enough to be considering marriage at this point in your life.

I have a friend-of-a-friend who got married and had a small “backyard” wedding. You can find a nice, cheap enough dress on Etsy (just check reviews first!!!) then rally friends and family together to essentially cook up a potluck. They gave people disposable cameras instead of hiring a photographer, which actually resulted in some really cool pictures, and developing film is always fun! If you have a friend/family member with a cool backyard and know a few people who can cook, it can be done. In the meantime, work a part time job for the extra cash and quit when you’re ready. Good luck!

If you are on facebook, I joined a group that was formed in my area where brides are selling items for reasonable prices or even donating in their local area. You may have some luck on there! If you have a large family/friend base I would ask for their support in DIY options. Pinterest is where I find a lot of my DIY ideas for the wedding Smiley smile

If you really want it a certain way and can't do it right now, I would honestly wait until you can have it the way you want. or JP and throw a small party afterwards at a church/community center or if the weather is good outdoors

I hope this was helpful. Best of luck

Thrift store! I got mine for $17 at Buffalo Exchange. Check out Poshmark and ebay too. If you want a new dress amazon, etsy, JJhouse, and Azazie are ones I see recommended.

ALSO I highly recommend joining the weddings under $5k group on fb since there is a like minded community there who won't shame you on your low budget.

If you are looking for ways to make extra money there are plenty of threads there too. Some ones people talk about are doing food delivery or plasma donations.

TBH we planned our wedding based on what we had saved to date, which was $5k. Might want to wait until you have a stash if you have a particular vision in mind. Or just have a small thing now, bigger party when you save up. But the $5k group will help you see what's possible on a lower budget.
