Does anyone regret doing fake flowers?

Gina, on May 6, 2021 at 9:25 PM Posted in Style and Décor 4 18
I don't have room in my budget for a florist and I'm not sure if I could recreate the look I want on my own because I'm doing a small amount of flowers as it is and any online wholesale option I've seen is going to be almost as expensive as having a florist do them for me. I'm considering either renting my bouquets through a site like Something Borrowed Blooms or trying to DIY them using silk flowers. Did anyone regret not splurging for real flowers on their day? It seems silly but for some reason I keep thinking there has to be a cheaper way to do flowers that I'm missing.

Costco.com sells fresh flower sets (bouquet and bout, etc) inexpensively if DIY through fiftyflowers.com isn’t an option or check out thumbtack.com which is cheaper for professionals than what the majority charges.

I’ve known a couple people that have used silks. One regretted it and the other didn’t consider it a big deal either way.

No regrets on my Sola wood flowers. SIL dyed them because she’s crafty but they do come done. Got a crap ton because they’re cheap. She said a dyeing party would have been fun (but couldn’t bc of covid). They’re stunning and I have them all now! Some are getting burned in a bonfire, others are around the house, some will be gift flourishes. Love them SO MUCH. Also had none of the real flower worries like refrigerating or water or heat... we could arrange ahead of time and either leave on site or not worry about them getting crushed (as much, they’re still delicate). Love love love! (And I love real flowers immensely but financially and logistically it didn’t make sense. Does anyone regret doing fake flowers? 1

I am a little crafty, but have no artistic eye. This was my first attempt at dyeing flowers on my own. Mind you I just grabbed a couple from my box of them, I paid about $100 for 600 flowers.
If you have a little bit of free time and can tell what goes nicely together then I'd say go for sola wood flowers.

I found faux flowers to be expensive as well (at least the ones that look nice and not too fake). At first I wanted to do only faux flowers in order to save money and be able to sell/re-use them. But then I changed my mind and did a mix. My bouquet and centerpieces were fresh flowers. Arch and cake stand decoration were faux. They ended up matching perfectly. I bought the flowers wholesale and arranged myself. I am sooooo glad I switched to real flowers. I loved them.

But I really love flowers. Plus it depends on the look you are going for. The colors and kind of flowers you are going for. And your craftiness.
We did white/ivory with eucalyptus. When I chose flowers at the wholesale place I chose cheaper once even though I liked some other ones more.

If you only need a few flowers and that'swhy you don't want to order from Costco or something like that and if you are not too picky which ones you could also pick some up two days before the wedding at a grocery. Our Trader Joe's usually has good options but Walmart, Costco, ... could also be an option. You just run into the risk that they might not have exactly what you want. You can also see if you find a wholesale flower shop. Where I bought my flowers they sold them in dozens.

I didn’t care about flowers so I ordered two bunches of white silk gerberas (for my bridesmaids) and one bunch of red silk gerberas (for me) off Etsy. Wrapped some ribbon around the stems and job done. Zero regrets, the bouquets were simple but looked nice and I think cost me $60 including shipping for all three in total.

I did not have fake flowers but I can certainly remember weddings that used them 😬. I’m a big flower person though.

I am buying my bouquet and bridesmaids bouquets from a florist but then DIYing my centerpieces. These online wholesale florists also usually sell wedding packages that include bouquets and centerpieces

A good friend of mine is super crafty and made our bouquets and boutonnieres (with real flowers) as our wedding present from her. So from a bride's perspective I can't really answer that. However, I've been a bridesmaid in a few weddings that had using silk flowers for the bouquets. The most recent of those weddings was about 7 years ago, and I still have my bouquets from each of them. So from a keepsake perspective, I really liked that we were able to hold onto those and they're now decorative accents in my home that are much more meaningful than just "oh here's some flowers in a vase". If my friend hadn't offered to do our flowers as a wedding gift, we definitely would have had fake flowers.

I got my wedding flowers from Etsy! They arrived a few weeks ago and I was so scared they were going to look cheesy or way too fake but I am SO amazed & pleased with how beautiful they turned out! Also, I love that they will last forever. It's a cute keepsake for the bridesmaids & we are going to do an Anniversary dance where the couple that has been together the longest will be the last couple still dancing & I will pass of my bouquet to them (I planned this strategically, it will be my parents hehe). Anyway, here are some pics.

Sam's club and costco have beautiful flowers you can diy!!! I was in a wedding where the bride did that and they were gorgeous.... much cheaper than using a florist too.
