Does anyone else hate the word "fiancé"?

Fit Bride, on February 20, 2014 at 9:34 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 52

LOL - I can't stand it! It sounds so snobby to me. Like if I say fiancé I should be holding a pinky out while I sip on tea. I only use it if I have to like when I'm introducing him to work people or strangers.

My FH and I always joke about it and laugh hysterically feeee-yuhhhn-sayyyy

Yes lololol!!! I do the same thing. I just think when you say fiancé to people, it's like you're DYING for them to ask you about your wedding lol

Ahh I totally agree! I always feel like if I say fiance I'm just dropping hints about my wedding. I've started just referring to fh by his name, even if I'm talking to someone who doesn't know him.

Haha! We have gotten used to it, but hated it at first. I wish FH (the letters) were appropriate for real life speak. We say fee-once in our most country accent. Two syllables instead of three.

Me too!!! I we still call each other boyfriend and girlfriend (although that was always a name we used for each other). I prefer husband to be!

I usually say "partner" which is what I called him before we were engaged. It's too annoying to keep changing what I call him.

I don't mind it because I hate "boyfriend", but I will like husband better. It sounds less snobby than "future intended" and dropping "future husband" in a convo sounds like you may or may not just be daydreaming lol

FH and I JUST had this convo. We both hate it. He admitted he sometimes uses "wife" which I love. Can't wait to drop fiancé and say husband instead!

I actually pronounce it "fee-can-see" because I'm weird in RL.

I love it because it's what he is, you only get to call him that for a short period of time and never again, I don't want to miss it Smiley smile It's not snobby, it probably feels snobby bc like someone said it feels like dropping hints about the wedding, but thats probably all in our heads bc we're obsessed with our own weddings haha no one else is

Sometimes when I'm going to post a picture on Instagram or FB I don't want to say fiancé but then I feel weird saying bf because he's not just my bf and I feel like ppl will notice. it's so confusing I've been avoiding it lol when I speak in public I do say bf.

I'm French so it's completely normal for me to sound pretentious. You should hear me order my Starbucks coffee.

It's weird. I feel like I sound snobby when I say it. I do like it more than "boyfriend", though.

I have to admit that I like it when he calls me his fiance, but I feel so uncomfortable using it myself. He only uses it around family though so it's not too bad. I use 'partner' instead.

I feel silly when I say it. We both hate it. I prefer partner, but I feel like it's kind of ambiguous, like we could own a business together or something. I almost alway say boyfriend, or intoduce him as "my man" when I'm around close friends, which is kind of silly, too. Boyfriend just sounds like so much less than what we are, and makes me feel like I'm in middle school when I'm 34.

I hate it too.. I always hesitate and say "my umm fiance"

I try to use his name instead of fiance, most people figure it out.

I dont mind when he calls me his fiancee though, I just dont like saying it.

He did admit to referring to me as "his old lady" at work, and I think I like that ALOT less than fiancee lol.
