Do You Bustle Your Dress for the First Look?

Eyonna, on May 9, 2021 at 11:17 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 5
I’m strongly considering doing a first look but of course before the main event I don’t want my dress to get dirty. Did any brides bustle the back so the train doesn’t get dirty? I’m thinking that I would do the bustle but wanted to make sure.

We did a first look and I didn't bustle my dress for it.

I didn’t bustle my dress for the first look. As long as your first look isn’t in a mud puddle, you’ll be fine. You just need to carry your train until you get set.

Thank you for this. I was torn with what to do and wanted to make sure the train didn’t get dirty.

IMO the first look is supposed to have all the "wow" factor and bustling a dress takes away the drama of the beautiful train. I would not do it. Unless you are doing a ton of adventurous photos or doing your first look outside on a rainy day and then having your ceremony indoors, its extremely unlikely any noticeable dirt will end up on your train that would be any different than what you would get taking your first steps down the aisle.

For what it is worth, we did a first look and our elopement ceremony outdoors and I didn't bustle my dress at all of any of it because the entire event was so short. I walked with my dress on dirt and gravel trails and across grass. My ivory lace dress looks 100% fine. After about 45 minutes of picking out some twigs that got caught in the lace, it's ready for our wedding celebration this year, no additional cleaning required.

I don't plan on bustling my dress for my first look. I'll have my MOH or coordinator help me hold it up and fluff it out before my FH turns around.
