Do i invite my boss to my wedding?

Sarah, on August 4, 2022 at 12:00 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

So I received a gift in the mail yesterday from my boss! She must have found our registry and she bought us quite a few items. I am so grateful for them, she really didn't have to do that. I only started working at this job a year ago and I was already engaged when I started there so I wouldn't say I'm close enough to anyone to invite them to my wedding. Do I give my boss an invite since she sent us a gift? I'll of course write her a thank you note but I wasn't sure what the proper etiquette was here. Thanks!

Just because she sent a gift does not mean you need to invite her, so no worries!

Someone giving you a gift never obligates you to invite them. Do you regularly get together outside of work, such as having her over for dinner? If not, don’t invite her.

No need to add those that send you gifts who were not invited to your guest list. I myself had people from my company send me gifts that weren’t invited to my wedding due to budget and that I wasn’t super close at the time. Most work colleagues understand not being invited but just want to show you support by getting you a gift.

You're fine not to invite her, but send a nice thank you card.

No. My boss did the same thing with my last wedding (found my registry online and sent a gift). There is zero expectation of getting an invite when they do this, otherwise they would wait for the invite and the registry info before buying you one!

Gifts don’t equate to invitations. A thank you card would be a very nice gesture.
If you’re close with your boss and YOU want them to be present for your wedding, then you can extend an invitation. If YOU don’t want them to attend, don’t invite them.

    I'll say invite Her.
    That's just me though.
She may not come anyhow this is why she went ahead and sent gifts.
    Happy Planning

Nope, write them a thank you card. Say thank you for them next time you see them. It’s common citrusy in my work for co-workers and bosses to give gifts and do mini wedding showers even though most of them if not all of them don’t get an invite. It’s just positive work culture.

There's no reason to invite your boss. Maybe if you had a friendship with her and a longer time employed, it might make sense.

No worries, you are not obligated to invite her! A nice thank you note should suffice just fine!
