dj Pricing

MaryElena, on December 9, 2019 at 4:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 20
We had our consultation with our potential DJ today. Our venue highly recommended them. The quality of their services is phenomenal. Since they are their preferred vendor they gave us a generous discount. Final cost will be $4,000 and change. Our custom package includes MC/DJ, ceremony and reception music, up lighting, and our monogram. Is there pricing reasonable?

That seems like a whole heck of a lot, but I know pricing varies greatly depending on your area. Where are you located? We got our DJ at a bargain for $595 for the ceremony and reception ($100 off since it's a Sunday wedding). Other DJ's in our area would've been about $1,000 and then uplighting and monogram would be a couple hundred extra, so no more than $2,000 if that. In my opinion $4,000 is really high, especially if that's with a "generous discount" Smiley atonished

We are in Denver. We paid $1,100 for two DJs with great reviews. They were there for 6 hours not including set up & take down, that included ceremony (they provided microphones), cocktail hour & reception (all 3 in different places). They did a super great job. It didn't include uplighting or monogram.

That seems like a lot to me, our DJ was around $2000 with our ceremony covered, Reception, extra mics, a photo booth, and basic lighting. We didn't get any of the extra add on's like the monogram but that seems like a big difference to me.

Agree with the PPs. If you're somewhere like Cali or NY, that might be normal, but it does seem high.

I'm in northeast Ohio and paying $1200 before tax/tip for ceremony,
cocktail hour, and reception. I could've added on uplighting and such
but opted not to - even so, those only would've added a few hundred.
    Photo booths sometimes come in DJ packages or are offered as add-ons;
again, we didn't do this, but I think I've seen prices around $500-$1k
    for those?

A lot depends on your area, but that seems high. We just got a quote from our venue's most highly recommended DJ and they have a set price of $2750 which includes 5 hours of DJ/MC, uplighting, and spot lighting. That's in St. Augustine, which is a pretty expensive wedding town since it's popular for locals and as a destination spot. But if you feel like your day won't be the same without them, then go for it.

We thought the price was a little outrageous also. Our stomachs knotted when we heard the pricing but we’re torn because their quality is exceptional. Our wedding in NY and is on Saturday. They took $1,000 off our final cost since they are affiliated with our venue.

That sounds like a high price. Especially if that's with their discounted price.

Wow, that's pretty pricey. I'm in the Chicagoland area and my package includes a DJ, emcee, and monogram and it's under $1600. I've done a lot of research on DJs and I've never seen someone charge that much.

That seems like... A lot :x almost too much. If i were you, I'd find diff dj vendors that offer the same thing and see what all theirs cost so you get the idea of average cost or can compare your pricing

Wow that is really expenisive. My venue includes a DJ, music , uplighting etc for $500. My venue cost is about 14k (including food, non alcoholic beverages, decor, flowers, cake, dessert table) for reference.

Girl that’s what I though when I first got a quote from our DJ he was stating $3100 for ceremony, reception, monogram, up lighting, and photo booth and I though it was way too high. I eliminated the photo booth and other effects and brought it down to 2100 but my fiancé was satisfied with the price so we signed a contract. I still wish I was able to negotiate down a bit more.
Although our DJ is a professional I still wish he have us a better discount for going through our vendors preferred vendor list.

New York tends to be an expensive area. We got married in Pennsylvania even though my husband is from New Jersey. New Jersey like New York is very expensive so we elected not to get married there. For the ceremony and reception, 2 DJs/MCs, dance floor lighting, custom monogram, and photo booth we paid $1,995. The custom monogram is normally an extra $175, but since we booked their DJs/MCs and photo book they gave that to us for no extra cost. Eight days prior the wedding, I was looking at his website to select the layout for our photo booth and I saw he had cool effects he offered and one was "dancing on clouds," which was basically a smoke machine that made it look like you were dancing on clouds. It was normally $400, but he gave it to us for $325. So in total we paid $2,320. He surprised us with a bubble machine during the recessional which was really pretty and added a cool element to our ceremony exit. He was a recommended vendor by our venue. They recommended a couple of different DJs, but I liked him the best. I am so glad we went with him as he was amazing.

Couldn’t agree more. Our guest count is only 100 ppl max. $4,000 was the final cost after the discount that was offered. Not to mention it’s a $2,000 deposit just to lock in the date. I was timid to start negotiating prices especially during our initial consultation. The services they offer are top notch which makes this decision so daunting. Your perspective is a great source of comfort. 😊

Yeah definitely think twice before signing vendors clearly their high price tag comes with quality services but you are still able to find alternatives for a cheaper price that can still satisfy your expectations.

Of course! Our photographer/videographer is a preferred vendor and only charged $540 to lock in our date. Our final cost is under $6,000 and his quality is exceptional. Fiancé and I agreed there is no reason why are disk jockey should cost nearly as much as the photographer.

We concur 100%. Our stomachs completely knotted when we were given the estimated final cost. The package that we customized only included the MC/DJ, ceremony and reception music, uplighting, and our monogram. I have always been one to value quality over quantity but not in this instance. 😟
