diy real centerpiece flowers- Am i crazy?

Hey DIYers!

I have been comparing local florists and having a really hard time justifying spending $1600 plus on flowers that will just die and we will not be able to enjoy after the wedding (mini mooning right after wedding).

I know I don't want the hassle and stress of making the bouquets or boutonnieres but I feel like the centerpieces wouldn't be too hard to do! I actually think it would be really fun to get a bunch of family and friends over, drink mimosas and arrange flowers. I'll pay a florist to make the other things and just do the centerpieces myself.

I have a really clear simple vision of how I want the centerpieces to look. A simple glass vase with greens, sunflowers and baby's breath. The only thing that's worrying me is having to put them together the day before our wedding.

People who are already married/further into planning than I am, how busy were you the day before your wedding? Is this doable or am I going to be super stressed if I do this?

    I think it depends on how many centerpieces you need. I had a small wedding so mine were easy to do the day before and I had help. Just think about whatever else you night have to do that day. I got my nails done, my hair highlighted and we had rehearsal on top of greeting guests all day because I had a destination wedding so my day was packed and stressful. Don’t over extend yourself the last few days if you can help it. Maybe a few friends could do it for you. Here are nine. Good luck.

    I'm expecting that time to be fairly hectic, but I think having an excuse to hide away for a little bit could actually be nice. I think quantity is definitely a factor here, and so is the time it takes to make them, and the hassle of getting them to the venue. I'd consider doing a dry run of one arrangement to make sure you feel confident making the centerpieces, and also so you can see how they'll hold up overnight. If that goes well and you feel confident that someone can safely take them to the venue, I think it'd be totally fine to make them yourself.

    We are actually going to do the bouquets ourselves the day before. I have made sure we have enough time left in the day to complete these. My mom is running this project.

    I agree with you that the arrangement you have in mind sounds simple enough. How many will you need? And make sure you think the transport through.
    Once I had all that planned, I am not at all worried that we will be stressed with this task.

    Have you looked into The bouqs, Enjoy Flowers, Costco and even Sam's Club? They have some DIY packages were really all you have to do is put the flowers in vases with flower food and you are good to go. I know that the Bouqs also have real DIY arrangements where they send you the loose flowers and a recipe card for an arrangement and it's SUPER affordable....

    Wow, I LOVE your centerpieces! So simple and elegant. And thank you for the tips! I think nails and the rehearsal and dinner might be it for me so far that day but I didn't know if I would have many little things to coordinate.

    Thank you, that's a great idea to do a dry run! I've been practicing with fake flowers but real will be totally different. The venue has a cooler we can borrow so we could drop them off the night before (we have to do this with the cake anyway) so I think it will be fine! Thanks!

    I'm impressed you're doing your own bouquets! That's too scary for me haha. We would need 20 centerpieces but I figure if I can get enough people together, and I have a large family and aunts who I'm sure would help, I think it's doable in a few hours. So that would leave me the afternoon to get my nails done, decorate the venue if needed and get to the rehearsal.

    In terms of transportation, I read about how you can use a clear hair tie to tie the stems together and then transport them without the water and refill when you get there. That way if they tip over nothing spills in the car. So maybe I'll try that? How are you planning to transport?

    I suggest asking those that you know are capable and willing to help you either come over or you all meet at a large enough location to accomplish your project.

    How much of it can you do ahead of time?

    Are you tying or wrapping Ribbon the Vases?

    Where are you going to store the completed Vases?

    We will need 20 total centerpieces. My MOH lives about 5 min from the venue so shes offered her house to use. I'm not sure yet about the vases but I think that's all stuff I can do ahead of time. I'm planning on just doing the flower part the day before the wedding and everything else I can getting done ahead of time. In terms of storage, the venue has coolers we can use so I'm not worried about that! Thanks, those are all good questions!

    Well my venue includes the centerpieces, but a very basic version. So the morning of we will add a few stems to the set up the florist will do. Those we will transport in buckets.
    Im only doing the bouquets myself, bcs i have silk ones as a back up. I eagerly started last year and then when they were done, i changed my mind and wanted fresh flowers.
    I will use the box they ship in and cut holes into it, then we will set the bouquets in mason jars into one hole each. That will leave them supported. Does that make sense?
    You should designate someone in your fam to run this project. That way you wont get held up if you need to run out doing other things.

    We are doing very simple centerpieces. Clear cases: small, medium, and large with white candles in the small and medium and white roses and baby's breath in the tall vase. The vases are going to sit on top on wooden circle pieces and have greenery around them. We have a wedding coordinator that we hired for the day and she will put them together. My aunt is going to help out if she has to.

    I’m using bloominous for all my flowers and doing them all myself. I couldn’t stomach the price of the florist when I can have it all for a quarter of the price & my efforts. I think it’ll all be perfect! 14 days and we’ll find out lol

    I looked at bloominous and liked it too. They have a lot of cool designs and are definitely cheaper. Good luck with the flowers and your wedding! It's going to be beautiful!
