diy Designer bride/grooms?

Rosario, on April 8, 2022 at 11:49 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 4
Any fellow bride or grooms out there who are graphic designers and are designing your own paper goods? If so, do you feel like you’re saving money by designing on your own and getting them printed elsewhere?

For save the dates, I’m considering making them magnets and getting my custom design printed with StickerMule.
For paper goods on the day of, things like menus and place cards, I’m considering using a local print shop and want to potentially get them die cut as well.
Anyone have experience with any of the above? How did it go for you? And are there any people you follow on social media who documented this process?

I'm a designer at a small-ish print shop and I'm making all of my paper goods. I'm waaaay too picky to just pick a design online and go with it. I purchased some watercolor artwork because I can't draw to save my life, but other than that I haven't spent anything extra on them.

There will most likely be a difference in cost if you're going with a local print shop vs. going with a pre-made item from like minted or zazzle. I know our stuff here is definitely more expensive, but I prefer being able to pick out my own paper and being able to feel it and see everything come together before it gets shipped out. Die cutting is also going to be more expensive than not. If there are any printing process questions you have, let me know! It's literally my day job lol.

I love this! I use to work at a few print shops as a production artist and without sounding snooty I just CAN’T deal with the typefaces on some of these sites offering pre-designed items. I’m hoping to splurge on die cut but worst case, I’ll just go with a standard rectangle and work it into the design!

I completely understand!! I am definitely being kind of over the top about our printed stuff, but since it's what I do I feel like I have to do something a bit extra.

I'm not a graphic designer, but my fiance and I are designing our own invitation suite since we didn't see anything that we totally loved and we found a small print shop online that is able to print them for significantly less than if we got a custom suite from a designer locally.
