Disney world or Universal Studios

M.A.Church, on February 15, 2015 at 3:02 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 30

Has anyone been to either for Honeymoon and where did you stay or have any suggestions for places in Florida. I prefer to stay around Florida since we are already there for the wedding. TIA.

DH and I honeymooned at Disney World. We picked Disney over Universal because of the Disney perks. Some of the perks being transportation from the airport (a huge one), the ability to add tickets and dining so everything is paid for at once and at the end of the day, I just like Disney better. (Plus Disney has way more options for hotels). It really ends up being which of the parks you really want to see. I would decide soon as if you go with Disney you will want to start booking meal reservations now. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

We're going to Disney for our honeymoon and actually made the decision yesterday to not take a day and go to Universal. It would have been $275 in tickets for us, plus cab fare, plus meals. It only cost an extra $21 to add on another day's tickets for both of us for Disney.

Disney is awesome. I would stay on property and tell them it's your honeymoon. They add special touches such as glasses of champagne and decorations. Disney is really good at nailing the details and making you feel special.

Universal! But only to go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter sections. (Yeah you can tell from my avatar that I'm a fan!). Otherwise I have no advice...

Thanks everyone! The only reason I wanted to go to Universal was for the Harry Potter attractions. I've been there a few times already. I've only been to Disney once and that was when I was 4 so I obviously don't remember anything. Disney it is! =) I've heard great things about the Port Orleans Hotel so I think we're gonna stay there. They offer horse Carriage rides! So romantic. Port Orleans is not cheap but still in our price range. The Grand Floridian is very nice but over our budget. I'm so excited!

As a previous 2x annual passholder for Disney and 1x passholder for Universal, my pick is Disney. It's more expensive especially if you want all the parks but they have more accommodations that fit all budgets. There is also Downtown Disney, Water Parks, Miniature Golf all within the vicinity.

Universal is not something I'd need multiple days to enjoy (1 day max).

If you can sneak away for two days, Universal is worth the trip. Disney is my first love, but the Harry Potter ride is awesome. There is now more Harry Potter stuff open that I can't wait to see.

Disney! However I am honeymooning at both because I am a harry potter fan! Universal is expensive though so if you are going for price and value do Disney, I added universal because we had some spare money to spend there Smiley smile

If you are booking on your own, be careful as there is Port Orleans Riverside and Port Orleans French Quarter. The horse and carriage ride is at Riverside. Riverside also has quiet pools and a full restaurant in addition to a food court (also ride the boat to Downtown Disney at least once during your stay, its really nice).

Hi Amber My name is Kelly and I am owner and travel expert of Travel by Kelly. Disney is a fantastic honeymoon option for sure. I've been so lucky to have had so many clients I have assisted over the years with a Disney honeymoon. There are so many things you can do, to make your Disney honeymoon experience special. There is some great dining, like a reservation at the California grill at the top of the Contemporary resort during the fireworks, amazing! or a backstage tour is unique. treat yourself to a spa day together at one of the resorts. Hit each country in Epcot center and have a nice treat in each one, there is a great pub called the Rose and crown and it's the perfect spot to watch illuminations, their nighttime fireworks show. Of course enjoying all Disney has to offer on a slow pace together having fun. I love it. My family all worked at Disney over the years so I do know it by the back of my hand and I am always happy to help in anyway, answer questions, make suggestions and help you put your trip together, it would be my pleasure. feel free to each out to me anytime and visit my store front here on wedding wire.

Wishing you happily ever afters, Kelly

Were doing both for our Honeymoon Smiley smile if you have to pick, I think Disney will be more romantic.

Edit: Check out David's Vaction Rentals. You can stay in a disney villa for half of the price. That's what we're doing Smiley smile

If you get sick @ all DO NOT RIDE THE HARRY POTTER RIDE>> I rode every SINGLE ride in the Universal parks (both of them) & I cried & Puked on HP... FH loved it, rode it 3 times... I hadnt been to Disny, but my FH & I went to US last year & bought a 2 week unlimited access pass for $300.00 (from visit Orlando.com) . Disney was just way out of our price range at the time.

If you do plan on staying at Disney, definitely call to book, don't do it online! FH and I really wanted a Savannah view room at Animal Kingdom Lodge, but it was going to be out of our price range so we were going to split the week between that and a moderate resort. When we called, the man I spoke to told us he could book us a standard priced room and put in a note that it was our honeymoon and we would like a partial savannah view. They know a lot of little tricks for better views at cheaper prices! Also, even if there's not a special offer for Disney right now (discounted room, free dining plan, etc.) just book anyway. You can call Disney and have the special offer applied to your reservation when it becomes available. You just have to check for it yourself, it won't be applied automatically. A deal came online for 35% off our room and a free day's ticket right after the first of the year. I called and asked them to apply it and in less than 5 minutes I got $1000 off our bill!
