Has anybody been to Disney/Universal for a honeymoon? If so, how was it?

When are you planning to go? I haven’t been for a honeymoon, but I just went to Disney World for my nephew’s birthday this weekend and while it was plenty of people, it was nowhere near like it usually is - it was only about 30% capacity and the ride lines were no more than 45 mins long (with plenty of social distancing). Be sure to read up on the park requirements on their websites (mandatory mask requirements, park reservations, etc) if you’re planning to go anytime soon. And if you go to Disney, get you a set of bridal Mickey ears (my sister for me a pair this weekend. LOL!). People were congratulating me all day long. Disney honeymoon??? 1

We went for 7 nights/8 days

We stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter - it's (obviously) New Orleans themed which made total sense for our relationship, because that's where we started dating and where we got engaged. It has a relaxed feel, and was very quiet (and we had a corner room overlooking the pool, so it's definitely well insulated lol). It's a moderate resort though, so the middle tier. First tip - add that you're honeymooning to your hotel reservation. It ends up on your Fastpasses (if they're available then) as well and whenever you use your Magic Band it shows up.

Get the meal plan - it can save you a lot of money if you like to eat lol. You have to add your honeymoon to dining reservations separately - I don't know why, but you have to call. Assuming it's available when you go - either way be aware that food is spendy! (So worth it though)

The first and last days were 1/2 days because of flights, so we avoided reservations those days and just did Fastpasses.

When we arrived we went to the concierge and got our Happily Ever After buttons. Second tip - GET THE BUTTONS and wear them! Cast Members will tell you congratulations and between the buttons and your Magic Bands you can sometimes get free stuff - I'll tell you what we ended up with at the end.

We made dining reservations at: Le Cellier (EPCOT), Cinderella's Royal Table (MK), San Angel Inn Restaurante (EPCOT), Flying Fish (Boardwalk area), Yak & Yeti (AK), 50s Prime Time (HS), and Hollywood Brown Derby (HS). (I don't recommend Yak & Yeti - it was good, but nothing special.)

We had two sit down dinners in HS because we were gifted the Fantasmic dinner package - dinner at one of three restaurants (the high end choice is HBD) and special seating for the show - SO COOL. But, I really wanted to go to 50s Prime Time (they definitely treat you like family - our server ("cousin") was all "why wasn't I invited to the wedding" - it was fun and the food is good!

Get a Memory Maker - you'll be able to download all of your photo pass and ride photos - completely worth it!

So. Cast Members are allowed to give away things to people who are celebrating (when we were there in February 2019 for my Mom's birthday, someone gave me an ice cream, because I was celebrating *her* birthday). Don't expect things - people who do, tend not to end up with things - just an observation. We got: a cheese stuffed Mickey pretzel, a churro, glasses of champagne at Le Cellier, seats at Be Our Guest for lunch (they were telling people they didn't have seats until 3, and let us right in), an extra half dessert and champagne at Flying Fish, champagne at HBD - and I'm sure there are things I've forgotten. Back to the observation about people expecting things - there was a couple in Flying Fish about the same time we were, who pulled wedding ears out of their bag and set them on the table instead of wearing them, weren't wearing the buttons, etc. - they were obviously expecting a magic moment - they got nothing.

Get wedding ears! We wore ours only one day - that day we got audience participation at Monsters Inc Laugh Floor - it was cool.

Have fun planning and let me know if you have any questions. We're Disneyphiles through and through!

We stayed at Disney but visited the universal parks. I wore my just married button to universal.

As PP mentioned cast members can give pixie dust to those celebrating at Disney. Even just at the hotel we got our fair share over the 3 days we were there. We got Champaign and mousse at Yatchman’s Steak House and chocolate covered strawberries and Champaign delivered to our room (could be partly because we were given a dirty room though too).
At universal even though you could clearly see my button, not one person even said congratulations. Which is fine, but for me was an obvious huge difference in the 2 companies.
Overall we are Disney fans to begin with, but the difference in customer service between the 2 companies is astounding. Just in politeness, helpfulness etc. also, for me Disney is an experience you get immersed in the magic. At Universal it’s just like going to any other theme park, you don’t become a part of the story.
Keep in mind that both places will be a modified experience if you are going anytime soon due to covid restrictions.

We did! We did 6 days/5 nights. We went in January, which is generally a slower time.

You can tell them it's your honeymoon, and you get buttons and the buttons usually mean small but fun perks. (We got several free desserts, for instance.)

We had a great time - being Disney, there's something for everyone. We particularly enjoyed Epcot, as we are massive nerds (and DH is just young enough to NOT know Figment, who is BACK AND FABULOUS).

We stayed on property, which mean we didn't have to rent a car. The only time we took a non-Disney vehicle was when we took Lyfts to Universal, and those weren't awful, price-wise.

We also have a bunch of Disgeek friends, so we learned a few hacks (use the app!!!).

Highly recommend, we had a blast and can't wait until we can go again.

My brother and SIL are season passholders. They've both gone and taken their (2&4) kids with them. They said it's amazing - especially with the crowds so low Smiley smile
