Did i order the wrong dress size?!?

Soooooo... I ordered my dress ( yay) BUT I’m worried I order the wrong size. I’ve never been a small girl 5”6 with broad shoulders and a sturdy build. Even my thinnest I was barely a medium. Well i ordered my dress in dec at close to my heaviest weight ever (a size 20 in bridal I currently wear a 16/18 jean size) I’m working to loose weight (not an easy thing for me) I’m not getting married till this fall and I’m hoping to be about 50 lbs lighter by then. My fear is I ordered too big and alterations are going to be a nightmare. Has anyone else dealt with this?

Same situation but I’d lost some. I’m struggling to lose 2 inches on my waist and wedding is early May. They can take it in if your drop the weight.
