Did anyone price match their dress?

Spaghetti, on August 10, 2017 at 9:30 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 27

The title pretty much says it all. I tried on my dress at 2 stores and they each have a different price. I would much rather buy from the one that has it listed a bit more expensive because they're a local shop. I left a voicemail explaining the situation and asked them to call back if there's something we could work out together. Anyone else attempt to negotiate the price of their dress?

Edit: It's not a matter of affording the dress, I would just like to save where I can Smiley smile

Edit: I changed the wording since "haggle" wasn't exactly the right word.

No, but I'm in the mentality of it never hurts to ask. Especially if it's literally the same dress and the place you're interested in hopes to make a sale and match the competitor's price.

I didn't haggle with the cost of mine but it was the same price at both stores where I tried it on.

If they can't do anything about the price, maybe they can offer a discount on accessories or BM dresses.

I would still support the local shop regardless of their answer.

I've had places say that they will match if I find a better price. So I think it's definitely something they do.

I think asking for a price match is okay but I wouldn't try to haggle any lower. Especially since you're trying to help out a local business.

I looked this up after my sister told me I should've negotiated the price of my dress!

I read it's okay to price match the same dress at another shop, but that's about it. Dont haggle for a lower price.

So what you're asking is OK! It doesn't hurt to ask. They'll probably say yes since business is business.

I did. David's Bridal was trying to sell me the dress for full price in store and it was discounted $150 online. 30 minutes later I got the discounted price Smiley smile

I did!! She showed me a dress I fell in love with that was $50 over the budget I told her. Because of that, I asked if she would go down $50 and she agreed Smiley smile

Yes, my mom had them take off the entire shipping price! They made the mistake of saying that my dress would be part of a larger shipment of dresses so my mom asked them to remove it since they already had dresses coming from the designer

In this case I definitely don't think it hurts to ask, especially if it's a significant amount.

Mine cost 2000 new. The sample was 1700. I told them I would take the sample unless they could help me since I only wanted to spend 2000 including alterations. They immediately agreed to knock the price of the new dress down to 1700.

Disclaimer: my dress designer is exclusive to this particular shop. So...they might have more wiggle room.

I was also alone...which I think helps (sending pics to my mom and sis for approval). Solo girls are prob less likely to pull the trigger so they might have also dropped the price to not let me leave.

Definitely doesn't hurt to ask...or pretend not to be too sure about the dress in order to see what they can do.

I think that's tacky. You don't haggle at Target, do you?

My price point for my dress was around 1k. The dress I fell in love with was 1,100. The local shop I went to, took the 100 off so I am at 1k now before alterations. Never hurts to try, especially if its the same dress at 2 different stores for 2 different prices.

My loudmouth friend asked my consultant to get me a discount and she took $100 off my dress. It was a discontinued Kenneth Winston dress that was originally $3,500 marked down to $1,400. I took it home for $1,300 plus tax.

I wouldn't consider price matching as haggling. I would present them with a copy of the other dress' price and see if they would honor it.

I told my consultant that I was having a hard time settling on a dress because of pricing so she gave me a 15% discount. Plus the place that I bought it from gives discounts to all the bridal part and mothers of the bride when they mention our wedding.

Lol...yeah. I bought mine on preownedweddingdresses.com as a sample dress (never altered!) It was listed for $199 and I asked if she would take $100. We negotiated at $130! It never hurts to ask!

I think it was worth asking! They might be happy to price match to get the sale. You never know.

Just for clarity - I am only asking for a price match. If they come close but are still a bit above I will definitely support the local business!

    @Annakay - Target has price match. https://corporate.target.com/about/shopping-experience/shop-with-confidence

Absolutely! Even though my parents were gifting my dress to me, I didn't want them spending a penny more then necessary. The shop I found my dress at had it priced for $2900. WAAY over budget for us. I called four other stores, who were priced between $2400 and $2600, so the store I wanted to buy from (The original store only 15min from where I live) was $500 more expensive then the cheapest option I found (Surprisingly enough, the cheapest was Kleinfelds!).

To make it even more interesting, I wanted a different belt with my dress other then the one that was sold with the dress, the one that was on there was beautiful, but too thick, the one I wanted was thinner and gave the dress a more delicate appearance. That belt was $350-500 more on top of the dress.

The original shop said they'd throw in the belt after we showed them a little hesitation. But we held off on the purchase, I did my research, and after four days, we went back to the original shop with all the quotes. I give a lot of credit to my mother who is a master negotiator - we got the price down to $2400 (from $2900) and including the belt - so what would initially have cost us $3200, we got and $800 savings.

Firm believer in negotiating. 100% - worst that could happen is they say no, we can't do that. Best thing? I can use that money elsewhere Smiley smile

ETA: To add, this would be the same for price match as well. I'd say, go back to the store you want to buy from, don't say price match. Just say, "Hey, I really want to buy from you guys, but this other store is offering me $$ deal, can you do any better?" Most times, they'll say well we can price match, or even better, they may come down a bit more.
