Devastated

Kassie, on November 25, 2020 at 10:23 AM Posted in Planning 0 13
My fiancé and I came to the hard decision to postpone our wedding. With COVID cases on the rise in our state and all the financial hardships we’ve been having, it just wouldn’t be our dream wedding. My fiancé’s family is all high risk either for age or health conditions and 80% of our guest list is out of town. I reached out to our venue to try to push back our wedding and they said that because of COVID, they have a new policy where 2021 weddings cannot he pushed back. Now even if we could afford it, none of my fiancé’s family would be there and only a very small portion of my family would be there 😓😭

I am so sorry you have to deal with this. If it helps, I dealt with the very same thing and since I had rather not lose out on the money, we went through with the wedding. Yes, it sucks that not everyone can be there especially if it’s a parent or sibling. But it doesn’t mean no one cares. You will be with your fiancé, those that can make it, and feel the love from everyone else. If you absolutely have to have it, make it intimate and try to enjoy! I hope you can postpone since it seems you’d much rather have everyone there. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!

We were in the same situation, and we went ahead with whoever could get there safely. Our wedding was paid off for April 2020, and we postponed for August thinking that would be enough. My in laws could not be there, and my father couldn't make it. So we ended up going ahead with it since the venue basically told us that we would have to pay for everything again to move the date. Its pretty despicable. I get their point, but no one could have predicted this. Its ridiculous and I hope other couples are taking notes on how venues are reacting to needing to postpone. We enjoyed our day, but it was marred by the knowledge that people couldn't be there and had to watch from livestream.

I'm so sorry that you are having to deal with this stress. Since your venue will not work with you, I would just go ahead with your wedding, just on a smaller scale. Maybe whoever cannot make it can join via Zoom?

Wow, did you know about their new policy? Are they offering you a full refund? It’s hard enough to cancel or postpone, then throw in a difficult venue on top of that 😫

Is that policy written into their contract? That's pretty terrible of them tbh. I can't believe they would rather lose your business entirely than allow you to postpone...I would leave a review so everyone knows what kind of business they are.

Exactly what I thought. I figured it would be no problem to postpone but I was so wrong. I have left reviews everywhere I could think of so I hope everyone sees it and chooses a different venue. It’s not written in the contract we signed so we are going to try to fight it.

I had no idea of the policy. I thought there would be no issues postponing. We have only made the deposit since we had to push our first payment due to financial difficulties 😓

I’m so sorry you’re going through this! Plenty of brides just push through & get married with a handful of people. Is there anyway you can still get married & stream for those who can’t make it? It’s not the most ideal situation but it’s making the best out of a crappy situation.

Sorry to hear that you can’t push the wedding back. But life obviously won’t be back to “normal“ for a while. So I don’t think that any 2020, 2021 or even 2022 brides should expect that. However, since your venue is set, I’d move forward with the plans and have a Zoom link for those who can’t attend in person.

Aww I'm sorry. Did you not want to wait until closer to may to decide? It may get a little better by then

AGREED. I was thinking the exact same thing! They clearly had to sign a contract, is there something in the contract allowing the venue to change such large policies without the consent of the parties involved? I would 100% write a review highlighting this incident and call them out.

My daughter’s friend had to go thru this and ended up hiring an attorney...they were able to change their date successfully. I just think it is so stressful! I hope you can navigate this without having to hire an attorney!
