Desserts

Emily, on February 1, 2020 at 2:52 PM Posted in Minnesota Planning 0 8

Hi!

I'm having a hard time with my desserts. It's going to be a rustic country wedding in Henderson MN and I want to do a dessert that is really good but also very affordable as we are on a tight budget for the wedding. It would be awesome if we could find a unique country desert but that would just be a bonus at this point. Do any of you know of a good place to get affordable and tasty wedding desserts in decent distance from my wedding location in Henderson or any suggestions on what we should do??

Thank you!

I'm not familiar with your area but would suggest pie as a country option, depending on the time of year. I was at a wedding that just had an assortment of pies for dessert and it was awesome (I'm not a huge fan of cake, but I love pie).

If you are interested in borrowing from another city´s tradition, Pittsburgh weddings feature ¨cookie tables¨where family members or friends of the bride and groom make their favorite family cookie recipes to share with wedding guests. Cookie tables make the wedding reception homey and familiar. It´s also a good way to stay in budget and have your family participate in your wedding. Here´s more information on them if you want to read about it! https://nationalpost.com/appetizer/in-pittsburgh-the-wedding-cookie-table-is-a-peculiar-and-wonderful-local-tradition

Not sure about her travel situation BUT a friend is a small goods baker in Northfield and she's doing our wedding. Her stuff is beautiful and delicious and her pricing is the best I've seen. Look up Cakes N Cakes on Instagram and tell her that Nic sent you. Smiley smile

We are having a fall wedding at a local greenhouse. We are doing pies! I feel like they go great at any venue, any time of the year! Unfortunately, I am not familiar with your area, so no help there. I would definitely check out some local bakeries though! Donuts could be another option?

    Would a S'mores bar be a possibility?

Pies are great. I'm not familiar with your area but we had our bakery do a bunch of little stuff. Mini cookies, mini cheesecakes, cookie dough shooters. Just all small stuff at our barn wedding. We think it was great and affordable.

If you are looking for traditional cake, you could consider Nothing Bundt Cakes. They are reasonably affordable, and you can get bundtinis or bundlets. Just a thought. I am looking at my cake options currently, and I decided not to go with them because I am not a big fan of cream cheese frosting. There are other options in the Minneapolis area that may be affordable, depending on your budget. The Thirsty Whale is another option in the Twin Cities (not sure on the distance from Henderson), and it has several different treat options including donuts.
