Decorating ideas for wedding ceremony space?

Victorian Bride, on October 29, 2019 at 1:04 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 16
Hi all! I think EVERYONE on WW knows we are FINALLY going to be married at Christmas. Ha! Ha! ❤ I need ideas for this 18 X 18 room, not a typo!, where we'll be married. Our colors are pale pink, rose, ivory, burgundy, and rose gold. Not thrilled that the whole room is a warm, medium dark gold. My gown is pale pink. Our ceremony will begin at 3pm. The pictures are from the venue last year and unfortunately are very dark, but the room will be decorated similarly, especially the fireplace. Any large tables, computers, Santa's, and things that clash with our color scheme, will be removed. Except for putting a garland on the chairs or decorating the chairs on the aisle with a posey, or nosegay, I have no other ideas. The room is just so small. Maybe a teeny arrangement on the table where we'll sign our license? We are not allowed to put rose petals on the floor. We each have 2 attendants, us, and the minister. Pretty crowded in front of that fireplace where the ceremony will take place ( could have one maid and groomsman sit). Here is a photo of the chairs provided by the venue. We'll have 16 set up although we will not have that many guests. I will have a video conference with our florist this Thursday, so any thoughts or ideas are appreciated. I'm SO excited!! Thanks in advance. 💖

I would do the small arrangements on the chair and maybe an aisle runner to lighten up the space and define the aisle. Anything else I think would make the room feel smaller. I think less is more in this situation.

Hey there Victorian Bride!! It's good to see you! I haven't seen any posts from you in awhile, and I was wondering if you were still on for December. I'm glad to see that you are!!

It's a lovely space, even if it is small. I wish I had some sage advice for you on decor, but I just don't. I'm doing such minimal decor myself. But I will say that candles can be used throughout the room to brighten it up a bit. On the mantle especially. You can use real, or even get those LED candles that are flameless, and powered by a small battery.

Hi Cristy!! Yes, long time no see!! ❤ Thanks for contributing!! It is a gorgeous venue and I can't wait to get married👰💐. We are excited. We aren't allowed to use candles of any sort, per the wedding planner as its on the national historic register. The room isn't dark at all, just the horrible pics. I'd love candles, though, especially if it were a cloudy day. We aren't allowed to do anything to the mantle, either. Lol! So good to hear from you. If you have any other thoughts, please share. When is your wedding? xx

Not even LED candles? They are just lights that are shaped like candles. Nothing on the mantle? Jeez, what a way to bum me out!! lol just kidding. I'm glad you love your venue, and I'm also glad to hear that the room isn't as dark as the pictures show.

Our wedding is May 30, just 213 days away!! It's funny because it sounds like a ton of time, but as I'm sure you know, it really isn't long at all! Just 7 months away now! We're getting ready to send out STDs!

Good luck with your decor issues. I can't wait to see your BAM!!

You're getting married on Christmas?! That's so amazing! Congratulations! My parents got married on Christmas and I think that is the coolest thing! From the pictures that I've seen of their wedding they went pretty minimal with the decorations, which other people have said and I would have to agree, being that you have a smaller space. They did use poinsettias and carnations (my mom's favorite) and it looked beautiful and very Christmas. Good luck with your planning!

It is a beautiful room and I agree about "less is more." I couldn't use real candles either in the church we got married in but we were able to use the flameless candles and they looked great. They looked real especially in the glass containers. I would see if you could use those and then just keep things simple with greenery.

Can you put something on the floor next to the fire place on each side? Like a large vase of flowers or something?

I was told not even LED candles. I'll ask again. The mantle will be decorated as shown and we are not allowed to add or take away, anything. Lol!! See why I've asked for assistance. 😊

Your 7 months will fly!! I'm so excited for you!! I think sending out STD's is thrilling because you know your wedding is getting close. ❤

Hi Ashley! December 22, so not quite Christmas. It's as close as we could get at our venue. I'm sure your parents had a lovely wedding! Thanks for sharing their wedding story. ❤ I appreciate your mentioning the flowers she used. Very helpful. So glad you contributed to this discussion. Thanks again. xx

Wow. Strict, but understandable, considering it's a historic building.

We had looked at a venue that was a historic Victorian mansion and grounds. There were a ton of rules, and ultimately that's why we didn't choose that venue. There were a couple of things that just didn't work for me. The big one was that they would only let us have the wedding during the day. Nothing after 3pm in the summer, and 1pm in the winter. Meaning the whole thing had to be over by those times. Not sure why exactly, but that was their rule.

I had my heart set on an evening wedding, so that took that venue out of the running. Kind of sad, because it's a really beautiful place to get married, and I have attended weddings there before.

Yes, the time is already flying by!!! And I get what you said about sending the STDs. Just getting them all addressed and stamped is making it so REAL!! I'm really getting married! Smiley surprise Smiley love

I probably could, Jamie, but with all of us standing up there, I dont think they would show, to be honest. The mantle will be decorated as shown, have no choice in the matter, and I'm afraid to have it too busy. Thank you so much for your input. ❤

We can only have this room until 5. JUST remembered that! LOL! The reason is our venue is also a full service Inn and it has a nightly cocktail reception at 5:30, for which all wedding decor must disappear and the room return to how it looks in the photos. So our guests can stay in there until that begins or go to the lounge. The lounge is lovely. We are paying for an open bar and will have canapés served to our people while we are taking photos. At 6:00 p.m., we go to the formal, private dining room for our meal. The sun sets at 5:07 p.m. this year.

Yes, these historic places are hard to work with as opposed to non-historic venues. The wedding planner has been very kind. Also, we were supposed to have a garden wedding, sometimes it's warm in Mississippi near Christmas. Then the planner walked it for me and told me how many feet it'd be and how many steps I'd have to go down (I'm walking alone now that my precious service dog, Gaston, passed) and I told her no way. Especially with our guests in wheel chairs. I had a wonderful plan to decorate the outdoor area. Oh well!

I'm glad you are having your evening wedding. It'll be beautiful!! And, YES, you are getting married!! ❤

Oh! I'm so sorry to hear about your dog!! I love animals, and my pets are always precious to me, like my own children. But he was your service dog, too!! That's an even more special bond. Well, now he's running across the rainbow bridge, free of suffering.

I get now why you had to scrap the garden wedding idea. Oh well. Your venue is still very lovely, and I'm sure it will go perfect with the wedding you have planned. I'm so happy for you!! So close now!
