Decor Ideas

Nicolette, on February 23, 2023 at 8:46 AM Posted in Style and Décor 1 8

Met with our potential florist yesterday and I loved her ideas! However, I was hoping that the florist would help with more design/decor. I am having trouble putting a vision together, I want to do elegant, chic, with a bit of rustic. Bridesmaid dresses are going to be dusty blue and bouquets/flowers are white/ivory/blush/and greens.

For example - personal touches, like signs, etc, is this all DIY?

Should I be hiring a decor person?

Feeling a bit overwhelmed!

No, florists usually do not help with those things. That would either be up to you or a dedicated design person. Wedding designers will listen to your ideas and look at inspiration boards and create your vision for you.

I think it depends on your florist. For me, I asked her to create a large arrangement for our welcome table. They were like our centerpieces but different size and shape. I also asked her to make a very small arrangement to put on our bar top. I asked her to create a greenery garland to put across the front of the bar. We had a tent so I had her make tent floral bows to put on the polls. I mention these examples because I think of them as decor. I personally made my own signs on zazzle. Welcome sign, favors sign, bar menu, bar sign (it was a picture of my pet saying it was “her bar”) small menu cards, table numbers, and escort cards. I personally didn’t want big signs so I think the largest one was 11x14 and the rest we’re probably 8x10. I used frames I already had or frames I knew I’d want to use in the future. I got some nice “frame stands” too that I’d want to use in the future.

I think there are also companies that can take care of all this for you if you’d rather not do DIY. Good luck! Happy planning Smiley smile

My florist for my first wedding did floral but also design/rentals etc. She did my mirror seating chart for example. It doesn't sound like yours is like this but you can always outright ask just to be sure. Lots of people do their own signs and stuff successfully so you don't necessarily need to hire someone else.

I think it really depends on the florist. Our florist provided not only flowers, but she also provided rentals such as an arch, frames, signs, etc. One other unique thing she provided was a candy bar. She had different sizes and shaped jars/bowls for the candy, she bought little bags for people to take candy home in and she bought all of the candy. Of course she charged us for this stuff, but it was nice that we didn't have to handle it ourselves. I did order two larger signs on my own, but she made the smaller signs. I just bought the templates for the larger ones from Etsy and then had them printed on foam boards from VistaPrint. However not every florist will handle decor outside of the flowers. If you don't want to DIY then you should probably look for a separate decorating company that specializes in weddings.

Florists don’t put those together but they can give you vendor referrals for a month of coordinator who does

I wouldn’t count on the typical florist doing signs, but some might. Things that would be more in their realm would be florals and how they’re presented. Some florists have vases or stands you can buy or rent to go with the flowers.
There’s a ton of great templates on Etsy, Templett.. or even create your own on adobe illustrations. I think many people tend to go overboard on signage. Stick to the basics and you can’t go wrong! Smiley smile for example you don’t need a bar sign unless you are notifying guests of signature drinks. Keeping signs on the smaller side is really eye pleasing- great idea above to use picture frames for them.

It'll depend on what the florist offers. Ours did our florals, candles, linens, chargers, lighting, drapery, and things of that nature, but I did all my signs, seating chart, escort cards, etc. I'd say check your contract if you already signed one or just reach out to ask what all is included.

What are the key advantages of hiring professional Power Washing Services compared to DIY methods?
