Dedicated December 2021

December Brides, covid

Brittany, on May 22, 2020 at 9:40 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 15

So I am hopefully getting married in NYC in December. Based on how things are going I am unsure how this is going to go. I want to know what people are thinking. I am hoping things clear up and we can still have the wedding. My fiance, thinks if we have to wear masks and social distance (ie no dancing) we should postpone, due to how expensive wedding are he doesn't want us to have spent all that money and it not be perfect. I am super confused because in some ways I agree, all the money we have saved for the wedding can just sit in an account gaining interest till the following year, and during that time we can put our focus on buying a house. So, it doesn't really hurt our timeline too much. But, also we've waited so long I just want to be married. What's everyone else planning to do?

We're getting married in September and we're not changing anything! But we live in Florida so we're almost all the way back open anyway. If it's not going to be the wedding you dreamed of and it's feasible, then you should probably postpone it.

Also getting married in December, I really think we'll be fine by then but I'm also in Texas. We're getting married regardless because I'm honestly tired of waiting haha

We’re getting married in August and I think even that will be fine. I wouldn’t worry about December yet. If anything you can postpone but you dont have to til like October, we postponed our April wedding a month before and it was fine

As someone in the NYC metro area, I honestly don't think we'll be at "normal" by December. Most of the theatre community is expecting that B'way won't realistically be back until next year, and smaller theatres are likely to be extremely limited. I mention this because theatre involves a lot of people in close contact with each other in seating, and on stage in terms of dancing.

We may currently be trending down, but we're not out of the woods yet, and there is very likely to be a second wave.

You may have to curtail your guest list. masks will almost certainly be required, and there may still be distancing requirements.

This is so tough, and I'm sorry.

Best advice, as someone in the NYC area: Have a Plan B, be flexible, and don't make any decisions until you *have* to.

We are still planning ahead with our mid-December wedding. We are also having it in rural North Carolina so a slightly different situation. I do not think it will be anything like it is now by December, look how much things have improved since March/April. We live just outside of Washington DC and there has been traffic again, and I NEVER thought I would be happy to see traffic. I'm also a Flight Attendant and our flights are filling up, we are bringing planes back into service to accommodate social distancing. I would honestly wait and see, things are getting better faster than anticipated. It's rough being the positive one as it's easier to be negative, but hang in there, we simply know nothing yet and NO ONE does.

I’m getting married December 12th in PA and am still moving forward. I’ve heard talk about the state not being allowed to shut down again over this. I will wait til the last minute to make a decision because I would hate to cancel now and then come to December and we would’ve been able to have our wedding. Good luck!!

I think NYC is a different situation than almost anywhere else. If we get a second wave, it will definitely hit NYC and could be really bad. In the meantime, though, I'd just stay positive where you can and hope for the best! There's really no way to know yet what will happen that far out.

Oh I am sure of that, it spread so fast here and we have no long term solutions after months. Which makes me think by Dec there may not be an answer. I was being hopeful for a long time but now I am unsure.

That’s what I’ve been thinking if we reschedule and things open up then I canceled for nothing. And because it’s a Christmas themed wedding it not being postponed by a few months but by a year. What are your thoughts in if you have to have to wear masks and social distance? Is that going to factor in or no? I’m split on the issue but my fiancé not so much.

I hear you - it's SO complicated right now! It sounds like the best you can do is wait it out for now and then discuss with your fiancé which you'd rather have - leave it as is and deal with masks/social distancing, or postpone it and risk being open and regretting it. Good luck!

Thanks hearing that flights are starting to open up does make things seem a little better. Honestly, here it doesn’t seem like things get better bc every time they give us a date when things will start opening they change it. So hearing flights are starting again makes me a little more hopeful.

Our wedding is Christmas themed too!! We asked our venue to put a soft hold on a December 2021 date and they allowed us to. If we have to wear masks and can’t dance our anything like that then we’ll 100% postpone. I want to enjoy my day!! I’m holding onto some faith though, we still have 7 months!!😊

We're also getting married in New York (upstate, but we're from the city) this December but I've been having a hard time staying optimistic that we will be back to any form of "normal" in time to have my big black tie wedding. I really hate to say this but I have been researching covid-19 for work since January and, if there is a second wave this fall (which is looking very likely) I think it is going to be really tough for Cuomo to allow large gatherings again. My company most likely isn't even planning on opening up our offices until after there is a vaccine because there really aren't any safe ways to travel or congregate in and around the city.

We're waiting to make any decisions until the fall but, if it comes down to it, we are planning on doing a small ceremony officiated by my cousin (who, thankfully, is currently recovering from covid-19) on our original date and then try and do the party next year. It feels really silly that I'm worried about it, but the biggest thing on my mind if we do that is what dress do I wear? Do I wear my big, beautiful, expensive gown, or do we do something simple and save all of that for the party next year?

You have some time, I wouldn’t worry yet but I get wanting to know what life will be like. All you can do is keep in touch with your venue closey and make have a backup date and plan.
