Day-of Wedding Coordinator?

Rachel, on May 21, 2021 at 7:04 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

Hi, Everyone!

I just wanted to hear your thoughts on day-of wedding coordinators and also see who else has considered this option.

My fiancé and I have pretty much booked all of our vendors and have taken care of most of the "big" planning pieces, but we are still wanting to explore the possibility of hiring a day-of coordinator to oversee the day and make sure things go smoothly, etc. Our wedding isn't going to be that big (60 guests or less), and our wedding party is going to be on the smaller side also and I definitely don't want anyone in our families or friends to be in charge of helping out with our day, not even the wedding party. We are planning on bringing some DIY favors and other things to be part of the ceremony/reception and having someone there to help set up and decorate would be a major plus.

Has anyone else hired a day-of coordinator? Has anyone had one in the past? I've heard that it can be worth it to take the "stress" of the day off of our shoulders.

Yes! Definitely hire a wedding planner. Let them handle the set up and everything else so that you and your guests don’t have to.

Best vendor I had. A DOC is so helpful, not just because they help your whole day run smoothly but they can set up and tear down.
Once the wedding was over, I was able to just go hang out with my husband and friends while the DOC packed everything and left it in our hotel room. We basically just got to relax the whole day.

I agree with PPs - one of the best decisions we made for our day - I *highly* recommend a DoC

They keep things running smoothly behind the scenes. Your guests are not able to do this so you need a professional.

The people employed by the venue or caterer as coordinators do not care about making sure that your day runs smoothly. The venue coordinator only cares that you follow their policy. Same for the caterer. They will not fix anything if another vendor doesn’t show or there is a problem of any kind. They also will not set up or tear down decorations and other duties that the day of coordinator does.

I just hired a Day of coordinator! I’m DIYing everything and was planning on doing it all by myself and my bridesmaids. My FH saw how much stress it was causing more than I did and he actually suggested hiring someone. It really is such a big relief of stress and you get to just show up on the day and know someone has your back. Plus you don’t have to stick around for the cleanup haha

I have one. I planned the whole wedding by myself but needed someone to make things run smoothly behind the scenes and be the point person for questions and when things go wrong. I have a child and even her birthday parties are so busy. People pulling me this way & that way. I dont want that on wedding day. I want someone to help me take care of it while I enjoy the day.

We didn't have one, but I wish we would've.

My venue came with a coordinator of sorts, and while she was great for the most part, a lot of what I thought might be in the scope of her role (helping to set up speakers, coordinating with vendors more, etc.) wasn't. I saw her a handful of times throughout the day.

I think a DOC would've just helped take some stress off of me (so many people asking me questions). Things ran relatively well, but I couldn't relax as much as I wanted to.

Yes! A day-of coordinator would be a great help to you. Just make sure when you are reviewing your options that you read the fine print. You mention decor setup/teardown specifically; some of them include this in their services, and some do not.

We hired a DOC through our venue (she is the venue coordinator, but also has a separate event planning company). She has already been a huge help, but she’ll be communicating with vendors, flipping the ceremony space, arranging centerpieces, and making sure we are all where we need to be, when we need to be there.

I can’t speak from direct experience. Hi decided a DOC was absolutely necessary after not having one for our minimony. The stress of doing things ourselves for something so intimate and scaled down helped me realize that we need one.
