Day of Coordinators - Worth it?

Gabbysitaxo, on May 4, 2021 at 2:21 PM Posted in Planning 1 14

Hi everyone! I have been stuck in deciding on getting a day of coordinator. I have a really close friend who is willing to take the position, but I want her to enjoy the wedding as well and not be caught up in all the duties of the DOC. Some of the DOCs I have been inquiring and researching, all seem to be a big help to brides. What do you guys think? Is it worth booking someone?

100% worth it. They keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes so you and your guests can relax instead of working.

We spent about $900 on our planner (we had monthly meetings leading up to the wedding and she took over vendor communication 90 days out). She was without a doubt the best money we spent on our wedding day. It was great knowing that it was someone else's job to make sure that everything was running smoothly so that I didn't have to do anything except get married and party.

Thats what I am pondering on! Weddings are a lot of work and I rather have everyone enjoy it!

It’s BEYOND worth it (many couples don’t realize the true value until after the wedding). Wedding planners are experienced and can professionally manage your wedding. Definitely don’t select a family/friend to work on your wedding day, when they should be relaxing as a guest.

Our DOC kept everything on track, kept myself and H from seeing one another (closing doors, directing "traffic," that kind of thing), coordinated the vendors/drop offs/etc, among many many other things. She made our day as stress free as possible and allowed us (and our families and friends) to just enjoy our wedding. Completely worth it.

Our venue actually makes us have on. I hired the agriculture teacher from my school!

I would definitely recommend having a DOC! Let your friend enjoy the party and hire a professional, or at least someone who wouldn't likely be invited as a guest but whom you trust to keep an event running smoothly. (For example, there are people in my church that I'm not close enough with to have invited them as guests, but I've seen them run events for the church and trust that they could have done a good job as DOC without getting overwhelmed.) Our venue's event coordinator was also our DOC and he did a phenomenal job. I have pretty severe anxiety, but I didn't worry about a thing the whole day because I knew he had it covered.

I don't have a wedding planner/DOC but definitely see the value in one and think it can be a great investment. I'm very organized and used to planning events, but when we had to pivot due to Covid it would have been really nice to have someone organizing who also wasn't so emotionally involved. Covid has been awful for our wedding and I think a planner/DOC would have helped with my stress levels a ton.

We haven't actually had our wedding celebration yet, but I can see myself both really enjoying staying busy during the day leading up to the event as well as worrying about little details and being the keeper of all the knowledge. At this point it doesn't seem worth it to pull someone in last minute, but it is an investment that I probably would have benefitted from if we hired someone earlier on.

Highly recommend. DOC can help keep everything on track and be the “bad guy” if you have opinionated family members that think you should be doing things at certain times.

I'm literally a professional in the wedding industry, and I'd be lost without my planner! I've seen her in action on a wedding day, and she's an organized force. Plus, so lovely to have a professional to bounce things off of. Highly worth it to hire a DOC.

I’m 100% getting a DOC because I do not trust my family or the groomsmen to be organized and timely.
