David's Bridal Alterations

Brittany, on July 18, 2018 at 3:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

I have my appointment in 2 weeks for alterations at David's Bridal. They got my appt setup when I picked up my dress and today I decided to start looking at reviews... which is making me nervous!! People seem to say they are way more expensive and now I'm thinking if I should find a seamstress... I need to have a bustle added, straps added (bought the straps already), and possibly have it taken in a little bit... I do have a corset back which should leave some wiggle room. Has anyone used David's Bridal for alterations and how much did it cost for what you had done? I'm very curious now and looking to get an idea in my head before the appt Smiley smile

I just had my first alterations appointment with them! I believe they're pricier than what you would find at a local seamstress but I also wanted the expertise of someone who is familiar with my dress. I had cups added, the dress hemmed, and a 13 point bustle on a dress with SO many layers of tulle and fabric and it came to $327. I was so scared by all the people on here saying it was so expensive that I had saved up $700 and was pleasantly surprised by how much less I had to pay. It will always vary by location as to what your experience is, but you can go in for the appointment and are free to decline the alterations if it is too much or you don't feel like they'll do their best work. And if you have local options who work with wedding gowns regularly, it may be worth it to compare prices. But I know some people, like me, don't have other options.

Thanks for the response!! That seems reasonable!! My dress is pretty simple - not many layers, but it doesn't need to be hemmed anyways! If you don't mind me asking how much was adding the cups part - I'm considering this, but haven't decided yet.... I like the idea, but was kinda going to decide after I got the quote since I know how much a strapless bra would cost me Smiley smile

I'm also getting alterations done at DB. I believe the cups were like $20 to add (I'm adding but haven't done so yet but asked about pricing when I scheduled lol)

Lol I had no idea what I was doing 10 months ago when I picked up my dress! If it's $20 I will defiantly add the cups Smiley smile

Cancel the appoint at DB and find a local seamstress for the alterations. You'll get better work at a more reasonable price.

I would cancel! I need to get a BM dress hemmed there and they said it would be $70!! It’s a $140 dress and I was like there’s no way I’m paying half of what the dress cost to get 2 inches taken off! A local tailor will do it for $25 or less!

I had my first fitting today. Taking in the top, hem, and bustle was $280. I think it also has to do with the materials and make of your dress. My hem,is actually multiple layers and one of sequined lace. I wanted to take it to Davids Bridal because they are convenient and I can use my DB card with no interest for 6 months. 😏

I just went to David's bridal yesterday and was charged $370 for them to take up the shoulders, hem, add cups and bustle. It was $50 for the shoulders, $200 for the hem, $20 for cups and $100 for the bustle. It's very expensive so I really hope it's worth it. The seamstress said if you take the dress somewhere else and they ruin it, David's Bridal won't touch it. If David's Bridal ruins it, they will replace your dress at no charge.

Wow I'm really glad I don't need to hem mine! Least you know your dress won't be ruined and if it is you can get a new one... which is a weight off your shoulders! I know they press and steam for free too and that would cost anywhere from $60-$100 depending where I took it so I'm going to tell myself that and take it off the price to make myself feel better Smiley winking thanks for the breakdown so I have some idea what to expect Smiley smile

Yes, the free steam and press makes up for some of the cost. You're welcome! ☺️

Honestly, cancel it. I picked up my dress yesterday, leaving for the wedding on Thursday and I'm praying they can fix it in time. I paid $285 for them to add a 17 point bustle, take in the waist, pin on a sash, and shorten the straps on my dress. They were supposed to let the ends of the sash stay long so we could still tie it in a bow, but they cut the ends off and sewed it into the zipper. The bustle buttons are HUGE. The straps were supposed to be shorten from the top so that it would help the bust lay flat. Instead, they took the length from the bottom of the arm hole and now it won't even stay on my shoulder AND the bust isn't even flat!! Don't waste your time or money there...
