Dark circles- under eye weirdness

Allie, on April 4, 2019 at 10:38 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 64

Dark circles under my eyes have always been a big problem for me. In high school, doctors said it was because I was anemic. But my iron levels have been really good lately and I'm still having this issue. Does anyone else struggle with this, and if so, do you use any products that help? I put on concealer and foundation the other day and it just made it worse like there is even a different texture to my skin under my eyes and the makeup just enhanced the patchiness.

I have this as well, not quite as dark as yours, but still very noticeable. I've always chalked it up to the fact that I'm just very pale. The skin under the eye is very thin, and I've just always assumed that makes it easier to see the vessels/capillaries/etc in this area.

For me at least, it definitely has nothing to do with sleep as they aren't really bags, just dark discoloring. And it doesn't matter how much sleep I get or don't get, it's always there.

You can still see mine a bit when I put on foundation, but for the most part, I think I'm probably the only one who notices it. I did go through a time when I was using additional products (eye brightener, concealer, etc) but I felt it made me look cakey and didn't really offer much more than foundation alone.

I have the same exact issue but I haven't been able to find a product that would totally make it go away. I have been using eye creams and I have been able to see the difference. I tried a few of them but the one that's been doing the magic trick is from Burts Bees. I paid $20 for it and after 8 weeks I noticed a huge difference, again it didn't completely go away but it definitely helped A LOT! I am very happy with the outcome and plan on using it more often to see how it works. I have done my research but every product that "guarantees" it's work is over $100 for super tiny products. I hope this helps Smiley smile

Yeah it doesn't have anything to do with sleep. I think my skin is just very thin under the eye too. I was hoping to find something to help (more medically than makeup coverage)

Nice! I use Rodan and Fields under eye creme but I just haven't noticed a difference. It actually just seems to be getting worse. I will have to try the Burts Bees.

Yeah give a try and see if it works on you. I will also try the famous frozen spoon, my gramma strongly believes that it helps and I've actually seen a lot of youtube videos and it seems to work. Let me know how it goes Smiley smile

If you have just discoloration (not bags or puffy skin) & if your bloodwork is good (you mentioned iron is one of them), then this can be exacerbated by: lack of sleep, eye strain (if you stare at your screen a lot), allergies & eye dryness, dehydration (this one is big for me) & sun exposure.

So drink plenty of water, get enough sleep, apply sunscreen to your undereye area every day, treat any allergies you may have.
Good undereye moisturizer is super important (hyaluronic acid, peptides, squalane, glycerin are all great ingredients to use). Use it daily & then apply sunscreen over it! I use Origins eye cream (Ginzing is a good one for this). If you notice different texture of your undereye area, this can be due to skin being dry, not plump enough, or sun damaged.
Once you solve problem of different texture with good moisturizer & sunscreen, proper concealer should do the trick. I use Origins Planscription concealer & it works great, no cakey look, no creasing & ingredients are non-toxic.

If you’re already doing all this & still no results, I would see a dermatologist who specializes in peels & lasers, there are some treatments specifically targeted to this problem.

What kind of filler are you referring to? Is it something like botox which has to be redone often?

It can be a genetic thing as well. I've seen makeup artists talk about that and unfortunately there's not a whole lot to do but try different products. I e found the IT cosmetics CC cream has worked for me to at least make them less noticable

Thank you! I drink a ton of water every day. I'm an engineer so a lot of my time is spent staring at a computer unfortunately. I use a daily moisturizer and sunscreen. The allergies and eye dryness could be contributing for sure. I hadn't thought about that. We have a lot of pollen right now. I may try to start taking Claritin and see if that helps. As for sleep, I have always had trouble figuring out how much sleep my body needs. I usually get 6.5-7 hrs a night. I need to try to start shooting for 8 hrs and see if that helps. I know over-sleeping can be an issue too. I will address the allergies and sleeping issues for about a month or two and if that doesn't help, look into treatments from my dermatologist.

Restylane or juvaderm. I’ve never had it done but I know people that have. It lasts for about 9 months so it’s not permanent.

Fellow engineer here 😃 I stare at my screen all the time too & have noticed the effect on my eyes. If your eyesight is perfect, using basic eye drops & changing computer screen color from default blue light to more yellow light is excellent for eye strain. I use f.lux software for this. Check it out!
Allergies can be a huge factor! I know several people who have the same issue every spring. I agree about sleep, too little or too much leaves my eyes puffy & dark. Usually 7-8 hours is optimal, according to research.
If you can, try the Origins eye cream & concealer. Otherwise, injectable filler is an option to get rid of any hollowness around eye area (dermatologist can do it, it’s usually done every 6-12 months). But if there is no hollowness & just discoloration, it probably won’t do much. Good luck!

Dark circle gang over here!! 🙋🏻‍♀️ My favorite concealer that I have found to help A LOT is LA Girl Pro and I buy it at Ulta for $4.99. And Dermablend foundation is great, it's a bit pricey for $37 but the coverage is great. I recently purchased Maybelline Matte poreless foundation for $9.99 and I love how it covers under my eyes with the concealer I mentioned.

I'm familiar with juvaderm. It's not that expensive so I will definitely give it a try if nothing else works. Thanks!
