Dance Lessons yes or no?

Liz, on September 14, 2020 at 8:41 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7
I'm passable at dancing, my FH on the other hand has two left feet and knows nothing about dance. I could always watch a few YouTube videos and improve myself and attempt to teach him along the way. We're also considering dance lessons but are wondering if it's worth the money. We have no plans to do anything choreographed.

Honestly, I've only been to 1 wedding ever where the couple did more than the typical sway with a spin or 2. That couple did a whole choreographed thing. We also just did the sway, and the photos came out nice and no one fell lol.

My fiance and I took dance lessons because I'm a horrible dancer lol. I honestly thought it was worth the money (for us, at least) for multiple reasons. First, it made me feel more comfortable dancing, both in general, and in front of people (the instructors). We were also able to get personalized help with perfecting the steps if we were doing them wrong. Second, we looked at it as a date night for us. It was fun for us to go out and learn something new while spending time with each other.

You could always contact the dance studio to setup one trial lesson to see if you think it's worth it to sign up for more. Also check on Groupon, dance studios often offer deals for trial lessons on there.

My husband and I just swayed for each slow dance and just danced horribly but had fun for the upbeat songs! We had a blast!

I say, sign up for the lessons if you think you will both enjoy it. It can be a very fun couple activity separate from preparing for your wedding. But not everyone will actually like taking lessons and that's fine, too. Definitely don't force it just for your wedding.

If you don't want a choreographed dance, just find lessons on YouTube but most people do a simple sway with no issues.

My fiance and I have just started dance lessons - we have done 5 with 2 more to go, wedding is in two weeks. We've found them super helpful! Because we had a Groupon for one studio but ended up being more interested in another studio, we've done both the "choreographed routine" lessons and the "technique" lessons. Honestly, the technique lessons make us feel more comfortable, confident, and poised, which is what you want when all eyes are on you. Even just to master a basic step and an underarm turn, I say go for it - you'll impress your guests with your grace, plus they won't be bored with a slow sway reminiscent of middle school.
