Covid-19 - Married in Private Ceremony - when to have the reception???

Emma B., on May 1, 2020 at 6:30 PM Posted in Wisconsin Planning 0 5

Hi Fellow Brides dealing with the changes of our special days due to COVID-19. Our wedding date was 04.18.20 and my *now* husband and I married in a private ceremony at our church. The intimacy was so beautiful and special. Now... we are trying to figure out when to schedule our vow renewal ceremony/reception. All of our vendors are available August 2nd and we were thinking of doing more of a casual 'i do, bbq' but are unsure if it is even worth planning for something in August with the uncertainty (being in SF, California). PLEASE, share your thoughts and advice as to when you are planning to do!

I honestly have no idea if its going to be better in august or not, but if it helps I just cancelled my big august wedding and we are just going to do an intimate ceremony. Everyone told us that they wanted to celebrate with us when this is all over so we moved the date with our vendors to next summer, when hopefully all of this is behind us.

    First of all, congrats!

Secondly, it's so hard to tell what August is going to look like. CA has really flattened the curve, but that also draws it out longer on the time scale.

Best advice I can give is: Have a Plan B, be flexible, and don't make any decisions until you *have* to.

An outdoor event may actually be allowed in August, particularly if you make sure to have safety protocols in place.

    Good luck!

We’re in Maine (opposite side of the country, I know) but our governor just put out guidelines for “reopening” the state and in August they are restricting events to 50 or less people. So we’re in the process of canceling our big wedding & having a small ceremony for 30 people. Such a tough time to be a bride! Put so much thought and effort into planning my wedding which is now being cancelled Smiley sad but I know what we decide to do will be just as beautiful!

We are getting married 9/3/2020. We thought about having a small ceremony then next year do a reception but I have heard that covid-19 may last 2 years. I'm not sure if I want to put the work into planning for another event next year and hoping it's going to be safe then it ending up being the same. I also don't want to wait 2 years to do a reception either because I think I would be over the whole wedding planning stuff by then.
