Couples getting married on July 13, 2019 in Maine

Chelsea, on August 16, 2018 at 4:59 PM Posted in Maine Planning 0 14

Hello!

I’m a recently engaged bride and feel my self already overthinking things! Most of my bridesmaids live elsewhere and I’m kind of doing this on my own with a little help from my fiancé and my mom. Thought it might be nice to have a connection with some people that are getting married the same day and kind of bounce ideas off one another. If anyone is interested, keep the conversation going. Hope to talk to you soon!

Hi Chelsea! I too am overthinking and planning everything. My fiancé is little help. All he requested was to get married on a beach so I got that done right away. I'm planning my Maine wedding from far away so I too feel alone sometimes despite my girls wanting to help when they can. That being said, I'm so excited that planning is all I want to do! Congratulations Smiley smile

I'm one month after you. What area of Maine are you in? I'm in the Freeport area.
I'm doing a majority of the planning myself as well. My 2 bridesmaids live in Maine, but not close and don't know each other so I'm not expecting too much collaboration with them. And my brother is a groomsmaid so I'm not expecting anything from him except to show up on the big day.

I live in Bucksport! We are getting married at Thuya Garden in Seal Harbor. It’s where my parents were married 46 years ago! Would love to have some friends that are doing the whole wedding thing at the same time. Are you guys planners? I always plan waaay in advance for the future.. but am not always the most organized. I’m making myself be for this!!

I'm such a planner. I've been so into planning that I actually made my mother cry because she didn't feel involved. Oops. I've had to learn how to delegate a bit here and there and relinquish some control. We will be getting married in Kennebunkport.

Thuya Garden is a beautiful spot and Acadia is so close by. You'll have such beautiful pictures and your out of town guests will have some great options for places to stay.
This is one thing you'll definitely want to force yourself to be organized on. I'm usually a pretty carefree and fly by the seat of my parts girl, but I've been following the ww checklist pretty close.
Also I've been shopping around pricewise for things well need for decorations and tents and I think I've found ways to save several hundred dollars.

It's super easy to get on a roll when you sit down with your laptop. Next thing you know you've got half your stuff planned out.
It would be so easy for me to do everything myself, but I try and keep my fiance in mind with all final decisions. I usually pick 2 or 3 things I like and when he gets home from work I go over the options with him so he gets a say too.
Fortunately my mom is super laid back and knows if I need help I'll ask. My FMIL on the other hand has had to be told several times already to chill.

Kennebunkport is a nice area and not far from my venue in Standish on Watchic Lake. Do you have a venue picked out yet?

Yes our venue is ocean woods resort with the ceremony on goose rocks beach. There's limited space at the resort for guests and it's impossible to get a room block in July in Southern Maine.

I've also started pricing out and buying decorations and my flowers (I have allergies so I'm doing fake). I can't wait to start putting stuff together but it's still so far away.

I'm going to do a lot of fake flowers as well, but I love sunflowers so i plan on planting hundreds of them in the spring. Both my FH picked a color each and a flower each. So yellow/sunflowers and blue/hydrangeas are our colors. But we plan on doing a lot of mixing and matching with the different shades...mostly to save money on decorations when we find deals.
Pinterest has a lot of great ideas for DIY decorating designs with flowers.
And FB market place has also been a great place to find things like table clothes and accessories that we can buy now and sell when we are done with them to make our money back, instead of renting.
I think we are also going to buy our own tent. Amazon has a 10×30 with detachable walls (in case of rain) for $90 which is way cheaper than a rental and we can sell it when we are done with it. The average cost of a rental tent that size in Maine is $250 or more.

We do have our venue packed! We are getting married at Thuya Garden in seal Harbor ( Close to Bar Harbor ) and then having our reception on our property in Trenton. We have picked colors, we are doing lilac, cornflower blue and gray. As for flowers, I really like that because I’ve been seeing with a lot of greenery, and then I’d like to do wildflowers as well. As for right now, I’m planning a lot of things myself but I am a quadriplegic so cannot do most things with my hands. I have a lot of support from my mom, one of my aunts and my maid of honor but she lives in Chicago. Toying around the idea of potentially getting a wedding planner just so that week of and especially the day of I won’t have to worry and stress.

Wondering if I can get some opinions. My future mother-in-law seems to be upset that I'm not inviting the kids on their side of the family. Our wedding is a destination wedding for them and I don't really want kids at the wedding. That being said, our venue can only fit 75 inside and if we invite all the kids we would have to rent the tent and that would end up being at least 5 grand more. I told her that my neices and nephews are coming to the ceremony but not the reception and that my sisters are bringing babysitters up with them to watch them during the reception. I don't think she quite understands how impractical it is to invite children to a destination wedding.

Any advice on how to talk to her without sounding rude or hypocritical (due to my neices and nephews coming). My fiancé has a LOT of cousins so we thought having a 21+ wedding would be the most fair way to keep the numbers down.
