Cost per guest

Jamie, on April 10, 2024 at 6:51 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4
So my fiancé and I seem to have different views on the total price per plate (guest)

Our food per person is $65Our drinks per person is $55Total $120
One of us thinks that means the price per plate (guest) is $120 because it’s the cost for what they will be consuming and the other believes it’s strictly just the food so $65.
Which is it?! Help end the debate!!

You are both right! The cost per plate is $65. The cost per guest is $120.

Why is it important to distinguish? We considered the total cost per guest because that’s the only number that mattered to us. Price per plate has no proper connection or relevance to gifts so I hope it’s not related to that.

Why does the cost matter outside of what is in your bank account for living expenses vs wedding costs? Guests don’t need to know, nor will they have a rough estimate, because you as hosts make the conscious choice to spend what you do and it has zero bearing on how much guests spend for a gift.
