Corsage or no corsage?

Kate, on September 21, 2020 at 10:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 17
My mom and FMIL have expressed the fact that they don’t love the idea of corsages for their wrists or boutonnières on their dresses, which I’m totally understanding of. It doesn’t make a difference to me either way, however, I did suggest putting flowers in their hair. They both loved the idea and I think we’re going to do that.

With that said, my question is, has anyone else skipped out on the corsages or boutonnières for the mothers?

That’s such a cute idea to do it on the hair though

We are not planning to do corsages for our mother either. We also are having the guys do pocket squares over boutonnières. Basically we figured one of the places we could cut our budget was flowers and that’s why we personally aren’t doing corsages. I love the flowers in their hair idea and if they love it I would go with that.

My stepmom & FMIL both wear their hair really short (my mother passed 2 yrs ago). I’ve asked them what want to wear & they both opted for wrist corsages.

We're not doing corsages. When I asked my mom about it she said they felt more like prom than a wedding and his mom agreed.

My FH is still debating if he wants boutonnieres or not.
I like the idea of flowers in the hair though! Not that they'd go for it but, it's a cute idea!

I definitely did. It reminds me too much of prom, which I never had the pleasure of attending.

Our fathers had boutonnières, but we skipped flowers altogether for the moms. Neither of the moms wanted them to begin with

No one wanted corsages because we got married in August, so family members got bouts, no matter their relationship to us.

I think that’s a cool idea. We’ve already decided for corsages, abs I don’t think flowers would look well in my mom’s hair, but I think it would have been an option for my FMIL.

I’m probably gonna skip out on it as well. I might get boutonnières for the groomsmen but my mom hates flowers anyways lol

We did all of the flowers at our miniwedding, so the mothers did have corsages, but my mom also had flowers in her hair. At the reception, they're getting floral hoops because I wanted to do something different, but those flowers will be fake, so they'll also be able to keep theirs forever, which I think they'll appreciate. I skipped them. They both expressed not caring at all about them, and I was doing all the flowers myself so it was just easier on me to have one less thing to make! They weren’t missed at all.

    Hair flowers sound lovely !

As many others have said, these aren't necessary in any way, and I think it's lovely that you are listening to their preferences.

I do think getting corsages and boutonnieres for parents/grandparents is one of those customs and traditions that is nice to follow even if you yourself don't care, IF the parents care. It's such a small thing that can be important to them. But again, since the mothers in your situation don't want them, then there's no reason at all to spend the money on these extra flowers.

Since I went w a brooch bouquet, I gave everyone brooch flower pins to wear instead of actual flowers... now they can have it as a keepsake.
