Correct Amount to Pay Friendor Serving as the Reception Mc/dj?

Catherine, on January 29, 2024 at 5:37 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 3
Suggestions please on a respectful cash amount to give a friend who has agreed to act as the MC/DJ for our wedding reception? We have a playlist already made up, and the venue has a wireless microphone and sound system she can use. It would involve her serving as the MC/DJ at the reception for 7 hours. She is also included as a guest at the reception with a “plus one.”
We would like to give her a generous amount for doing us this favor, but we are also on a very tight budget. Any advice appreciated- please help! Thank you!

A respected fee would be what the professional vendors charge. Bear in mind that as someone performing vendor duties, she will not be able to enjoy herself as a guest at any point from the start of the ceremony to end of reception. Many friends don’t see this as enjoyable or respectful.

It seems best to offer a full fee for doing the MC/DJ tasks. If she declines, ask if she will take half. In the end it is better to pay a friend than a stranger when both would do the same task well.

Nothing because it’s not a good idea to accept that offer in the first place. I don’t think it’s appropriate to allow a so called guest to work as a vendor. That said, unless your friend told you this is their wedding gift to you, market rate.
