Corona wedding help!!

Laura, on October 10, 2020 at 9:06 AM Posted in Georgia Planning 0 4
So it’s 15 days before our wedding and the groom and both his parents tested positive for covid. I tried to postpone the wedding and the venue is closing down at the end of this year and the two dates they have available are a Friday (not doable as most of our guests are family from out of state) and a Sunday that’s in the blackout period for work (can’t ask off). So we basically have to find a new date and venue. Most of the venues around us starts at 5-8,000. We’re not even sure if we’ll be able to get the 2500 we paid for the venue back, so spending thousands more is not an option. Does anyone have any suggestions about either wedding venues in the newnan ga area that don’t charge an arm and a leg, or other out of the box ideas of places we could get married at? This is the second time we’ve had to postpone and i am starting to lose it.

I hate to say it but I think you'll need to do a Friday. I had to travel Friday wedding once. Not convenient but it is what it is. I am fairly sure you won't get the money back. I would ask but vendors aren't refund friendly even during covid. I am so sorry this happened.

Omg I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I'm from NY so I dont know any venues in GA. But maybe you could try looking for venues outside of Newnan but still in GA? Or do you have any friends or relatives that live close by with a backyard that you could hold it at?

Oh my gosh, I am so sorry you are dealing with this at the 11th hour! That has to be so frustrating. If I were in your shoes, to be honest, I would just do the Friday date. I know it’s inconvenient for some of your guests, but considering the circumstances, I think people would be much more understanding and try to make that day work. I think I would much rather have the wedding I had dreamed of and planned with less people at it, then trying to quickly throw together another one somewhere else that is going to cost even more money; because, unfortunately, you probably will not be getting your $2500 deposit back from your venue since you are choosing to cancel the event, and they are offering you other dates to reschedule it to.
That being said, if you are dead set on not using your venue any longer, I would look into free or low cost venues, like parks, etc. You may want to call around to some local venues to see if they have openings also. Because so many couples have canceled/rescheduled their weddings this year due to the pandemic, there is a possibility someone might have an opening for you this year. And because it is such short notice, you may even be able to get a good deal on it! Otherwise, there is always the option of having a backyard wedding.

Just book the Friday date. Some of your out of town guests may have to miss, but it is better than having to completely cancel/reschedule and losing a lot of money.
