Conflicted on Wedding Signage

Amanda, on June 14, 2021 at 6:16 PM Posted in Planning 1 22
So I’ve been in love with wedding signage like this (picture attached) since before we got engaged. It’s basically painted acrylic with gold scripted paint/vinyl for the wording. I found a super talented lady who does signage exactly like this, all custom and rental so I don’t have to store anything or try to resell after. However, it’s going to cost around $1,000 for her to do all of our signage. The cost includes a $200 travel fee (she’s in the next city over, about 1.5 hours one way), all of the easels, and she will come and do all of the set up and take away the next day. I’m starting to have second thoughts though, after another friend of mine getting married shared that she’s doing all of their signage via custom Etsy templates and just having them printed locally. It’s a completely different look (which I do like - simple and modern and still matches our vibe), and would require a little more work on our end but I could potentially save hundreds of dollars and even resell some of the signs/frames after the wedding.

Am I crazy for even considering spending $1000 on signage?! Should I just go the Etsy route and put a little more time into doing my signs and save lots of money? What would you do/how much are you spending on your own wedding signs?

This is the Etsy template style I’m leaning towards for comparison. They would be a fraction of the cost and still really pretty!Conflicted on Wedding Signage 2

We did a combo. The small signs for things like favors and gifts and cards our decorator made using her Cricut. The larger signs like our welcome sign and hashtag sign I bought templates from Etsy and had printed via VistaPrint. Our decorator rented easles to us for the larger signs and she bought signs from the Dollar Tree for our small signs. I personally wouldn't spend $1,000 on signs but it is completely a personal decision.

I ordered very similar acrylic signs from Birch Hill Designs! Mine are brushed navy with white lettering. It will be MUCH to buy your signs. Yes you will still have them after the wedding since you aren’t renting, but you could probably sell the more generic signs and just hold onto the personalized ones. Courtney (the owner) was great to work with! I had to add one more sign after I received my order because we decided to add a guestbook late and she made it and shipped it out to me very quickly. Highly recommend!

Thank you! We’ve saved a lot in other areas so $1,000 seemed doable/reasonable but looking at these Etsy templates I’m like I could save so much money 😂 I love the combo idea!!

That’s def a personal preference based on your budget, but I personally would rather see $1,000 go elsewhere for my wedding (or honeymoon!). That’s actually more than what we’re paying our DoC. As others have mentioned, Etsy has some great options. I got small acrylic signs for the guest book and cards/gifts that came out freat

That’s what I’m thinking too. I can just think of so many better things that I can do with $1,000!

Exactly! Especially for something that isn’t a main focal point for the day. People will find their names quickly and sit. That’s a huge expense for 1k. I’ve found great things on Etsy and Michael’s has some cool things too!

As we get closer I’m just starting to kind of let go of some of these things I really loved, knowing it’s not worth the cost. Has to change some of our decor as the gold lanterns I wanted have been sold out everywhere (and cost will add up even if I could get my hands on them). Nothing wrong with reevaluating and scaling back! I figured most people on here would agree with going to Etsy route and saving the money for something different! Hey maybe the savings can pay for a massage on the beach in our honeymoon - that sounds WAY better 😂🥰

There are plenty of shops on Etsy that do signs like that, don’t spend more than you have to.

Yes! That’s pretty much where I’m at too lol. We had our micro wedding in October and are now gearing up for our big celebration this October. A lot of details I had been considering I’ve been cutting to put toward our honeymoon! And honestly, on the day, you’re not going to care about or notice the small details lol.

I personally would never pay $1000 just for a sign. Because honestly, what exactly do you plan on doing with the sign when the wedding is over?

I had looked into ordering signs like this for our wedding, but opted out because I couldn't justify spending that much money on signs lol.

I just created a free design using Canva.com, and saved it to my computer, then uploaded it to Vistaprint to print! It's saved me A LOT of money, especially since these signs won't be used after the wedding, and I don't want to go through to hassle of storing them while trying to sell them.

Vistaprint actually offers acrylic sign printing now, so you could honestly go that route and compare the prices to the Etsy ones and see which one would be cheaper!

So they’re all rentals. She customizes them then takes them back so I wouldn’t have to store or resell them. That was worth it to me but I’m just beginning to reconsider the cost and see that I can still do nice signage myself for a fraction of the cost.

Yep! I found that out the other day! Our unplugged ceremony sign is from them and it's just printed on thick form board, but the quality is really nice! They also have frosted and unfrosted acrylic sign choices with a lot of sizes to choose from!

I'm also wanting acrylic signs... but don't wanna pay a bunch for them.

I searched yesterday and realized that Hobby Lobby sells acrylic sheets of all sizes. The 8x10 is $1.49, the 18x24 is only $6.99. I plan on buying that and having a friend with a Cricut cut and place the vinyl. If I want it painted on the back, no big deal. Acyrlic paint is easy to find. I'll then add a gold frame when they have them 50% off.

I'm also only making signs that we can re-use in our home. For instance, instead of "Welcome to the Wedding of __________ and ________, I'm simply doing "Welcome, our names, the date"... that way I can use it in our entryway after the wedding.
