Church Wedding Ceremony in Milwaukee

Monique, on March 18, 2019 at 6:45 PM Posted in Wisconsin Planning 0 10
Hello everyone my fiancé and I are getting married in 2021 and I thought I would be able to get Married at my church. I was told that we would not be able to get married there due to my fiancé not being a member. They want him to become a member and in order to do that he would have to do all these classes. Does anyone know of a church where his father would be able to marry us and where we won’t have to become members? We are in Milwaukee, WI

Would it be worth it for him to enroll in those classes? If it’s important, I would opt for tbat.

It might be best to look for a public option if you want to have your own officiant/pastor. Many churches will not allow other pastors/officiants to come into their church and perform a service. To each its own, but I would have my FH take the courses to become a member.

I think you would probably either have to have him take the classes, or find a public location where you can just have whoever you want officiate.

Thank you everyone for the advice, the only reason why I would say he couldn’t take the classes is because he’s a cop and has a crazy work schedule. Also my church has allowed for non members to be married there as well.

Usually churches dont allow other pastors or priests to perform anything at a church that is not theirs, also not allowed to bring someone in. I would say look for a non denominational church, tons are in milwaukee.

Is his father a pastor/preacher/priest anywhere? I've never heard of church's allowing outside people to marry couples inside the church, but I suppose it could be possible. Our pastor is marrying us, but we aren't having our ceremony at our church. It will still be beautiful & Godly, but it will be outdoors at our reception venue. Would you consider having a religious ceremony somewhere besides a Church, like I am doing?

Most churches work around schedules. It’s typically “against the rules” to have a private officiant in a church. After all, it is a business.

Not sure if you are willing to venture a little south of Milwaukee, but the DeKoven Center in Racine has a chapel that we are using for our ceremony! You can have whoever you want officiate.
